Subject: RE: Subaru Forester and the Pogues From: Joe Offer Date: 29 Jan 12 - 02:35 AM Gee, my kid wrote a song called Me and Giuliani Down by the School Yard (A True Story). Toyota wanted to use it in a commercial, and offered my son's band $100,000. The bidding went up to $250,000, and still the band refused, not wanting to be known as "the band in the Toyota commercial" and be forgotten in a year. So, they gave up all that money, and are still performing almost a decade later. I hope the Pogues made the right decision....or at least, I hope Subaru paid them an obscene amount of money. I wonder if the ad is meant primarily for the Japanese market, where even unknown American and European bands can have huge advertising value. I still can't figure out how my kid's song would work in a commercial. It's nine minutes long - I guess they could get a lot of commercials out of it... -Joe- |

Subject: Subaru Forester and the Pogues From: Greg B Date: 28 Jan 12 - 08:31 PM So what's the deal with the new Subaru Forester commercial using "If I Should Fall From Grace With God" as a theme song? Do they totally not get it? |
