Even more encyclopaedic info from another promising-looking site I've never seen before:-

Old Songs - Lady Margaret

Remembering the Old Songs "These articles are a monthly feature of INSIDE BLUEGRASS, the publication of the Minnesota Bluegrass and Old-Time Music Association. They document links between bluegrass and old-time music and the traditional music of Appalachia, the British Isles, and elsewhere." (Author Lyle Lofgren)

Library of Congress has this:-
Little Betty Ann (Lady Margaret) / Bascom Lamar Lunsford [sound recording]
No indication it's on any compilation.

Second Hand Songs has more info:-
"Recording: Little Marget
Performed by
Bascom Lamar Lunsford
First release
On audio album Smoky Mt. Ballads (1953)
Comments
Although this is the earliest recording of this song by Lunsford we can find, it seems he had been aware of the song for many years. "Little Marget (Sweet William)" is included in his folio of sheet music, "30 and 1 Folk Songs from the Southern Mountains", published in 1929. In the liner notes to his album "Pete Seeger Sings American Ballads", Pete Seeger says he learnt this song from Bascom Lamar Lunsford in 1935."

Scroll down the Second Hand Songs page for other examples of the ballad (several YouTube links, including one for Pete Seeger).

Haven't come across this site before, looks very useful. Second Hand Songs Home Page "Find out who performed the original version of a particular song, or who covered that song."

Bascom Lamar Lunsford: 30 and 1 Folk Songs From the Southern Mountains £55.27 inc postage on Bookfinder.com

It appeared on at least one recording: Smoky Mt. Ballads - Folkways FA 2040. There's a (pdf) track listing here: Track listing
