Subject: Yorkshire 2012 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 07 Feb 12 - 02:56 PM Decided to start a new thread. Date is 18th May 2012 at the same venue as last year. Hopefully a few more will come this year and stay into Sunday. We have to move out of the function room for a couple of hours for Sunday lunches but will have a party tent available during that time and can go back into the big room for the rest of the day. Here is a link to Last years thread |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire 2012 From: Noreen Date: 07 Feb 12 - 05:44 PM Since this is a new thread, how about putting all the details near the top, for those who may be interested but didn't go last year? It's good setting for a gathering- and good people going to be there! |

Subject: RE: Yorkshire 2012 From: Leadfingers Date: 07 Feb 12 - 07:08 PM The pub is the White Horse Old Sharlston WF4 1EP and date is 18th May |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire 2012 From: Suegorgeous Date: 07 Feb 12 - 08:09 PM You don't even say what kind of event this is.... not helpful for those not in the know. |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire 2012 From: Leadfingers Date: 07 Feb 12 - 09:29 PM Its a weekend of Music and Booze and VERY good company Sue. A Tent or similar Sleeping facility is desirable though . |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire 2012 From: Doug Chadwick Date: 08 Feb 12 - 02:39 AM Its a weekend of Music and Booze and …… Not exactly too descriptive there, Leadfingers. This was the description of last year's do, according to Mrs Duck prior to the event: The weekend is the 13th May at The White Horse Inn Sharlston Nr Wakefield. There is camping available on an adjacent field at £4 for caravans and £2 for tents per night. It is not an exclusively Mudcat weekend so any folkie friends are very welcome. We have use of the function room and possibly a party tent all weekend and I have promised we will all drink lots of beer. The pub does excellent food and I would recommend booking a Sunday lunch. I am proposing a communal style meal on the Saturday evening with something like chilli and veggie curry with rice. There will be song and music sessions and sometimes a mix and chocolate. I'd say that that was pretty much the way that things turned out – and with the "VERY good company" that Leadfingers mentions. DC |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire 2012 From: theleveller Date: 08 Feb 12 - 03:27 AM What are we talking about here - a psychic folk event? I'll get me crystal ball. |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Folk gathering 2012 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 08 Feb 12 - 12:19 PM I don't know how to change the thread title. Basically the details are very similar to last year. It is not an exclusively Mudcat weekend so any folkie friends are very welcome. Subject: RE: Yorkshire 2012 From: foggers Date: 08 Feb 12 - 07:29 PM It was brilliant last year and I am pretty sure we will be there again unless disaster or stardom strikes... The pub is great with good food and well kept beer. The field for camping is next to pub with use of pub facilities. The Ducks and Ducklings did a super job all round. The magic duck-wand was wielded as a means of turn taking in the sessions and the company was indeed excellent. I want to remember my video camera this year, in the hope of immortalising Geoff's rendition of Duelling Banjos! |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire 2012 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 08 Mar 12 - 01:07 PM Refreshing this to see if we have any more takers. |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire 2012 From: GUEST,BanjoRay Date: 08 Mar 12 - 01:22 PM Sadly I won't be able to make it - I'll be at a music camp in Spain, so that's OK! Ray |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire 2012 From: YorkshireYankee Date: 08 Mar 12 - 01:37 PM I'm hoping to be there, but won't need accommodation (will drive back & forth). Will post when I know for sure... |
Subject: : Yorkshire 2012 From: Leadfingers Date: 08 Mar 12 - 07:07 PM I will have spare tent space , IF any one wants to chance my snoring ! Priority will be given to nubile Wenchlets ! If Lord Bath can get away with it , why not me ? LOL |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire 2012 From: Mr Happy Date: 09 Mar 12 - 12:11 PM Is it time to start a new thread again yet? |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire 2012 From: kendall Date: 09 Mar 12 - 12:25 PM I'd love to be there but we will be boating on the river Ely with Gordon Bok and Carol Rohl. Had a great time there a few years ago. |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire 2012 From: Doug Chadwick Date: 09 Mar 12 - 01:26 PM I posted on the on the end of last year's thread when it was updated in January but, just in case it gets missed, I'll re-post what I said there: I'll be there. Hope it's as good as last year but I would like to see it extend a bit further into Sunday afternoon this time. I will probably stay over until Monday morning if anyone else is around. DC |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire 2012 From: Dennis the Elder Date: 10 Mar 12 - 04:18 AM With a bit of luck I will be there on one day, not sure which one yet. Dennis |

Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering May 2012 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 22 Mar 12 - 02:23 PM Be great to see you. Please do pass on the info to any folk friendly friends and let's try to swell the numbers this year :) |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering May 2012 From: Leadfingers Date: 22 Mar 12 - 08:49 PM Thats a Shame - Got paid work down here on the 19th ! |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering May 2012 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 24 Mar 12 - 02:08 PM I am trying to keep this near the top as at present we seem to be very low on numbers and if I don't get a few more names on the list I will have to make a decision as to whether it will happen. I will have to let the landlady know fairly soon in case she gets the chance of a paid booking and turns it down. |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering May 2012 From: Dennis the Elder Date: 24 Mar 12 - 08:06 PM It was such a good event last year it would be a shame if it did not get off the ground this year. Please please commit yourselves, the standard was great last year , well worth the journey. Must admit mine is just a few miles, but Ib will defiantly be there. Dennis |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering May 2012 From: Tig Date: 25 Mar 12 - 06:30 PM We'll try and get there for more of it this year Jane, honest :-) |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering May 2012 From: Paul Davenport Date: 26 Mar 12 - 05:41 AM I would totally endorse Dennis' posting above. Lovely pub, great atmosphere and some outstanding singing. Makes me almost wish I wasn't in Greece that weekend! |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering May 2012 From: GUEST,Jon Heslop Date: 26 Mar 12 - 08:36 AM Just picked up on this. We'd love to attend as we're on our way up to York the following week.We can leave here (Cornwall) on Friday instead of Monday and have a fun break on the way. Cheers, Jon |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering May 2012 From: foggers Date: 26 Mar 12 - 05:06 PM Jane I shall see if I can pass it round the SY folks network. |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering May 2012 From: Leadfingers Date: 26 Mar 12 - 10:22 PM Its a shame I wont be there this year - Last year WAS a great weekend but Paid Work has to take precedence I'm afraid ! |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering May 2012 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 27 Mar 12 - 01:58 PM Great Jon! Yes please everyone pass the word. |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering May 2012 From: GUEST, Jim Hancock Date: 28 Mar 12 - 04:42 AM Please feel free to add your event to the Yorkshire Folk Arts Festival listings at http://www.yorkshire-folk-arts.com Just follow the links to the directory / festivals and fill in the online form. It's free and with around 50,000 hits a year it may well be useful in spreading the word. All the best Jim Hancock |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering May 2012 From: Mr Happy Date: 28 Mar 12 - 06:16 AM Was considering going Holmfirth but just found camping's more expensive than anticipated. Therefore it's a definite maybe we'll be coming yours instead |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering May 2012 From: Zany Mouse Date: 28 Mar 12 - 03:44 PM It's in the diary and we're looking forward to it. I think we will only be there for the Saturday as our camper is needing attention at the moment, but you never know what might happen between now and the Gathering. Rhiannon |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering May 2012 From: Mr Happy Date: 01 Apr 12 - 10:13 AM Is the party tent a definite? If not, can the pub accommodate more than one sesh, depending on numbers? |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering May 2012 From: Morticia Date: 01 Apr 12 - 10:27 AM Sadly Brian is having one or two little problems at the moment and we have no idea how long it will take to fix or if it can be fixed so we can't sign up to anything currently. |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering May 2012 From: Mr Happy Date: 01 Apr 12 - 11:31 AM Are you referring to the partly tent? If so, shall I bring one? |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering May 2012 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 02 Apr 12 - 06:22 AM Brian is their campervan. We own a double size gazebo that we have used before as a party tent and plan to put it up next to the function room. The main pub isn't really suitable for a session but we have use of the function room all weekend apart from a couple of hours Sunday lunchtime when they serve meals in there. If you have a tent Mr Happy it could prove very useful as another session area especially if, as I hope, we get more numbers. The function room is a good size and last year we ended up with a mixed session and in the end didn't put the tent up (very high winds didn't help). |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering May 2012 From: Mr Happy Date: 03 Apr 12 - 11:17 AM Ah, high winds, yes I remember me big frame tent sailing off like a giant kite at the previous Yorkshire gathering I came to years back. it landed roof down on the only tiny bit of barbedwire in the field & ripped a big hole in it. Luckily had me little spare dome tent as well. That was the pub with the al fresco flush lav!! Tee-hee |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering May 2012 From: foggers Date: 09 Apr 12 - 05:50 PM Bump up again. Any more takers? |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering May 2012 From: Mr Happy Date: 10 Apr 12 - 04:25 AM Mrs D, I passed around lots of your flyers at our Anglesey gathering last w/end & plenty interest generated, so hopefully there'll be more coming yours from all over. As it stands, the Chester contingent will be definitely meself & Mrs Happy[Mie] & probably the Gloom Band [2 - 4 others]. I'm photocopying b&w versions of the flyer for further publicity around our local seshes & do's so you should be assured of decent numbers of diverse instrumentalists & singers. Will there be a possibility for campers to stay over until the Monday? |
