Thanks to Joe Cline by way of Steve Goldfield at the recorded music country old time newsgroup, here is some interesting information.

Beginning next year, NPR (National Public Radio, for those unfamiliar with the term)will explore the stories behind the 100 most important American musical works of the 20th century. And we'd like your help.

Below is a list of 300 works with check-boxes next to them. These nominations were compiled by NPR producers, editors, reporters, critics and scholars. It covers a wide variety of genres: classical, jazz, rock'n'roll, country, R&B, musical theatre, film scores, etc. From this list, we'd like you to cast your vote for the 100 most important American musical works of the 20th century.

Here's our definition of "most important": By virtue of its achievement, beauty, or excellence, the work is an important milestone of American music in the 20th century. It significantly changed the musical landscape, opened new horizons, or in itself had a major effect on American culture and civilization.

So here's where you go to vote! They do have a place for write in votes, though typical of such polls, write ins have little chance without some sort of organized effort.
