Subject: WANTED: UK/IRISH FOLK RECORDS
From: GUEST,Miles
Date: 09 Feb 12 - 03:53 PM

Hello. I am a big UK/IRISH folk fan but locating the albums in the USA is difficult, no matter how common the albums are in the UK. If you (or any friends or family) have any old albums that you would like to get rid of I will pay for the LPs and shipping costs. I can also, happily, create CD-R versions of any albums you might still want to listen to, if you'd like.

Please send me an e-mail: donoteq*AT*gmail.com

(remove *AT* and replace with @)

Thanks for your help!

-Miles

Try CAMSCO [ see record shop banner at the top of the page ] and they support the Mudcat Cafe.

Possibly a trader hoping to get rare albums cheap?

I am no trader and I am not looking "rare" albums specifically. Pretty much any traditional (or contemporary) UK/Irish folk music on vinyl (LP or 7") that I haven't heard, as I have no appropriate (or enjoyable) means to listen to CDs and I just do not like them. I am always on the hunt to hear good traditional music but it is quite difficult living the USA and I have used ebay but the UK seller's high prices (that no one bids on) combined with high shipping costs cannot be afforded by me. I figured I would try to help how out anyone who have no use for their vinyl anymore or would like CD copies of their albums. Thanks for your help!

You should check with Encore Records on Liberty St. in Ann Arbor, MI. They have a huge selection, many of which fit your category. Also, I'll see what I have and will get in touch sometime over the next couple of weeks.

BigDaddy: Thanks for the tip and I look forward to hearing from you.

CJB: Thanks for the suggestion but I am most interested in physical music rather than MP3s

I might have a few for you. I haven't got the means of listening to vinyl. So it would be a good swap to hear my old records again - if you can get any money for them - good luck to you - I can't be arsed.

Just a quick followup here...I inventoried my collection of folk LPs and sent a list by email to "Guest.Miles" above. I never received a reply. So it goes.

Al - After CDs came in I went for a long time unable to listen to my vinyls. But a few [maybe 3-4] years ago I found that Dixon's had gone back to selling 33/45 vinyl decks again ~~ the one you have seen in my living-room is only a v few years old. I presume they will still stock them.

Gotta say I emailed a list of LPs to Guest Miles, he selected a bunch and paid upfront.

I understand that many people have arguments with Amazon, but they broker sales of vinyl as well as other forms of used music. If you link here Mudcat will get a small referral fee. Postage and handling is a flat rate $2.98 within the continental USA.

If Amazon.co.uk stock it then the odds are these days that they have it available as a download as well.
