A friend's guitar was stolen several years ago and, wonder of wonders, we found it for sale used at a Guitar Center in Dallas today. The staff was sympathetic, cooperative and helpful. Here's how it works in Texas – the store will release the guitar to the police, who will then release it to friend after comparing the guitar's serial number to the old police report. A happy ending for friend. The moral of the story is record the serial number(s) of your instruments and be sure to file a police report if one is stolen.

Well, well, well....

That is GREAT!!!

I hate a guitar thief as much as any thief there is... I hope that the Guitar Center can provide the name of the gu who sold it to them and then this story will get even better...

Glad to hear your friend got the guitar back.

The guitar center in this case will be out of money. Your friend should consider giving them a reward for being so cooperative. Sometimes the store also keeps a record of who sold them the guitar, and photocopies their ID. That was the case with a local jewelry store in our area, when one of our tenants sold some of the loot she had taken from our apartment.

I hope they nail the bast**d, too. The chances of that happening may depend on how many times the guitar was sold or traded in the intervening years.
