Isn't it a pity that some of the folk who are so keen to celebrate the Elliott family at a showbiz venue like the Sage showed so little interest in the family folk club that it had to close through lack of support?

Hi George - yes, that was partly due to the event being started by the performers half an hour earlier than the advertised time. Apologies again for the disappointment. If you bought your tickets on line we refunded them immediately; I will double check for you.

A similar event was held on the Friday night at the recent Hartlepool festival - and it was sold out. Even people who had bought tickets for this particular event were unable to get in once the room was full - which reminds me, Joanie, have we had our refund yet???

Will buy tickets from The Sage soon to avoid further disappointment.

A truely magical evening with some stunning performances from all the artistes. The nihgt had it all, the delicate haunting sound of the Unthanks, the big band sound of the Doonans, the wall of sound that is the Wilson family and the obvious emotion and joy from the Elliotts, which was felt by everybody in the hall. The finale 'Union Miners' led by the Doonans, with dancing from the Unthanks and then into the powerhouse singing of the Wilsons to finish was outstanding! It got everybody in the hall to their feet, to give them the standing ovation they so rightly deserved. It was a pleasure to be there!

I've just got home and I'm still buzzing. What an amazing night.

The very best of Northern Folk in the most wonderful setting.
Hall 1 of the The Sage holding (so I'm told) about 1,600 people was packed to the rafters and Doreen Elliott - a sprightly 84 years old - held the concert together with consumate skill.

Top marks to all the performers but for me the young Doonans took the very top prize. Their talent was outstanding - I hope to see a lot more of them in the future.

Congratulations to the Elliotts on the 50th anniversary of the Birtley folk club, and selling out Hall One at the Sage for what looks to be a very memorable night. Well done.

Somebody sent me an e-mail asking this: I think the heading would attract more attention if amended to "Elliotts concert at the Sage 2 March. I hope what I put was a good compromise. Wish there were a way to get all those performer names in the thread title. Even to this California boy, the list of performers is impressive.

We will try and get there for this monumental event. I served my singing apprentice at Birtley Folk Club 1966 to 1972 and would not want to miss this for the world. Pete and Pat came to our wedding. Gan Canny Brian and Christine Kell
