I ain't finding a thing, Q. The boat was called the General Belgrano if you refer to the Argentinian boat from the Falklands War, but that didn't help in the search. Also, for people searching, don't bother with anything before 1982.

No such song I suspect. Confusion might arise because sites about famous sinkings tend to include both the Belgrano and the Edmund Fitzgerald, with a note about Gordon Lightfoot's song about the latter - and both tend to turn up together in abbreviated Google search headings - for example:

Seriously, I have never been able to understand the fuss made about sinking "The General Belgrano". There was a war on and it was a warship on the other side. Hence it was a legitimate target.

I think "The Sun" headline "Gotcha" particularly tasteless, as is the Childers' song quoted above, but the excuse that it was sailing away from the invaded islands did not render it harmless.

There is no excuse for the sinking of the Belgrano.
The British created an exclusion zone around the Falklands and said anything inside the zone could be attacked.
The Belgrano was OUTSIDE the exclusion AND heading away from the Falklands when she was sunk!

I have not heard of the song mentioned but I understand that the Belgrano was in fact originally a British or American ship which survived the Pearl Harbour bombing in 1941 and was sold to Argentina after the war and renamed . But I could be wrong ...I was once in 1958 I think

It was once the USS Phoenix and survived Pearl Harbor.

It was sold to Argentina in 1951.
