George, I have a good friend named Tsougrianis back where I lived until two years ago. Metaxa for him, but Ouzo would work just fine. I knew him for seven years before I dared use the word malaka. He looked at me and burst out laughing. He has never forgot his homeland, nor will he. He hurts from this as do you. You deserve to have your song, your thoughts and your feelings for where you were born and raised(?) heard by all loyal Greeks. And Greeks are listening to you. It don't get better than that for songwriters.

Great song as always George - I am only an annual visitor to Greece but know there is a piece of it in my heart forever and despair at what is happening

Malaka is OK, but after we've drunk a bottle of ouzo together :-) Yep, George is fine, the Mr never sat right with me.

Is it ok if I still call you George?

Mr Papavgeris sounds a bit awkward being that I'm older than you, and malaka seems a bit informal.

Thank you for singing this at Herga last night George - I've checked out your You Tube version now too. Not much cheer in the latest news of bailout talks...

A powerful song.
When you think how easily a country can be reduced to scenes like these, it makes you (me anyway) value the total freedom of the press, even if it means the gutter press exists; it is the ordinary person's only real protection from rabid self-interest, I believe.
Wish I could quote Greek, but the Eurozone was described in the old quote:

'They make a desert and call it peace" (Sunday Observer article)

Almost one year ago now I stood in Syntagma Square on a sunny afternoon watching the ceremonial march of the guards in front of the Tomb of the Unknown. The scene was calm and beautiful. It's so difficult to see the square now as the crowd battles the police with the guard shacks in flames.
I can feel in the words of your song what it must feel like for a Greek to see this, George. I hope with all my heart that some solution can be reached soon.

I sent it to about a dozen Greek friends and linked it to the Occupy Athens page on Facebook so far. It's starting to do the rounds by the look of it, it had alomost twice as many vewings in the last 4 hours as in the previous 24... Fingers crossed. More encouraging still, it is eliciting some lovely messages of support for the cause from Iceland, the Netherlands, Russia, France and Portugal.

I echo what LEJ said, George. Really good song (I can only understand the translation, but I'm sure it must be even more compelling in Greek.) Also, I hope you are able to link the song on Greek sites (like Mudcat, etc), because the song needs to be heard in the land of your birth.

Ex Apostaseos - From a Distance

A cry of frustration and anger at what is happening in/to my homeland. The lyrics - both Greek and English translation - as always on the screen.

From a Distance
