Subject: Station NIghtclub Fire, RI, 9 years ago From: ChanteyLass Date: 20 Feb 12 - 10:19 PM Today was the 9th anniversary of The Station Night Club fire in West Warwick, RI. It was the fourth worst nightclub fire in the US. One hundred people died, although some lingered for months. It was started by pyrotechnics used by the band Great White (which is why I put it above the line) and spread rapidly because the owners had installed foam for soundproofing, but the foam was not fire-retarding. The fire inspector had been to the building but not cited the violation. Also, the building may have been overcrowded and exits may have been blocked. I live about five blocks from the site of the fire. Here is a link to some of today's TV news coverage. The memorial service referred to was held on Sunday. http://www.abc6.com/story/16976459/9-years-later-rhode-island-remembers-station-nightclub-fire |
