Subject: RE: A Little Quebec Fiddling From: Desert Dancer Date: 24 Feb 12 - 10:55 PM The piano player in that video is a multi-talented guy, eh? ;-) |
Subject: RE: A Little Quebec Fiddling From: Beer Date: 24 Feb 12 - 11:36 PM That is correct. He is a very shy person but he is as genuine as his smile. Come next month (March 18th.)I will see if he will let me video him playing the piano with his hands behind his back. Here is a 2010 video with Germain and another great fiddler April Verch in a contest. For those who don't understand French I will explain how the contest goes. The judge calls a key. As an example, "A" the fiddler must play a tune in the key of "A". Then the audience calls a key to be played. For Guy the key is shouted in French as he does not speak or understand English. And for April the key is in English. This goes back and forth until one messes up. The winner gets a sock as a trophy(I think) and the looser gets a pint of beer. Look up April Verch on you tube and you will witness one hell of a great stepper. Adrien http://youtu.be/S4AIpDJg6wU |

Subject: RE: A Little Quebec Fiddling From: Beer Date: 25 Feb 12 - 12:08 AM I don't know where you are located D. Dancer, but April covers a great span of this world. Germain stays in the Quebec area most of the time. I will up load a few other video's which I have taken at the café if folks would like. ad. |
Subject: RE: A Little Quebec Fiddling From: Desert Dancer Date: 25 Feb 12 - 12:31 AM I am in the diagonally opposite corner of the continent, so videos is good for me! I'm in the Los Angeles area tonight, and after your post, a fiddling Arizona friend of mine and I were having fun looking at those contest videos via Facebook. There's something special about that Quebec playing... maybe it strikes a chord from early New England influences on me. I love it. ~ Becky in Long Beach |
