Hi - does anyone have complete lyrics and/or a source of a tune/recording for a song called David's Time/Thyme please.
I do not know it and am asking for a friend who wants to use it in a play but can only remember parts of it.
Thanks in advance.
This is what I have been given :

Time it is a precious thing
and time it do go on
and time it'll bring all things to an end
and so doth me time go on

Once I had a sprig of Thyme
it prospered both night and day
Till afalse young man came a courting to me
and he stole all me Thyme away

The gardener was standing by
I bid him choose for me
he chose me the lily, aye the Violet and the pink
but I really refused them all three.

It's very well a drinking ale
and it's nice to have a drop of wine
but it's far better sitting by a young man's side
that gaineth this heart of mine.

I've never heard it called by that name, but I suspect this is at least one version of the song you seek. It's right here in the Digital Tradition: THYME IT IS A PRECIOUS THING

Refreshing for Bev Lawton, in case she doesn't remember how to find her thread.

The Bunch of Thyme

Come all ye maidens young and fair,
All you that are blooming in your prime,
Always beware, and keep your garden fair,
Let no man steal away your thyme.
For time it is a precious thing,
And time brings all things to my mind.
Time with all its flavours, along with all its joys,
Time brings all things to my mind.

Once I had a bunch of thyme.
I thought it never would decay,
Then came a lusty sailor who chanced to pass my way,
And stole my bunch of thyme away.
For time it is a precious thing,
And time brings all things to my mind.
Time with all its flavours, along with all its joys,
Time brings all things to my mind.

The sailor gave to me a rose,
A rose that never would decay.
He gave it to me to keep me reminded
Of when he stole my thyme away.
For time it is a precious thing,
And time brings all things to my mind.
Time with all its flavours, along with all its joys,
Time brings all things to my mind.

That differs from Maeve's a little. I found it at
