Subject: The Copper Family ,SE London gig March 9 From: GUEST,The Goose Is Out! Date: 28 Feb 12 - 06:41 AM The Copper Family, Upstairs at The Mag @ The Goose Is Out! Friday 9th March, Doors 7.45pm, £6 The Mag 211 Lordship Lane, East Dulwich, SE22 8HA. The Copper Family of Rottingdean have been singing their songs for generations, lovingly preserving them for the future. We are absolutely delighted to be welcoming them to the Goose, particularly as their public appearances outside Sussex are quite rare. Brothers James and Thomas Copper came to prominence in the 1890s and had a great influence on the lives of the farmworking families of Rottingdean. They encouraged and nurtured the singing of a great many old songs. Subsequent generations of the family have continued to keep these songs alive. The present day Copper family ensemble is led by John Copper, James Coppers' great – grandson. New floorspots are always welcome at the Mag, get there early and put your name on the list. http://www.thecopperfamily.com/ http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_depth/business/2008/downturn/south_east/7974080.stm http://youtu.be/ZT_vcDq6zUM http://www.thegooseisout.com |

Subject: RE: The Copper Family ,SE London gig March 9 From: GUEST,NygelGoose Date: 07 Mar 12 - 02:07 PM Hi Peter K I would get there for 7 or so , get a drink in the bar downstairs and keep an eye on people going upstairs. if they're going up and not coming down again, it's safe to assume there will be a que forming, the upstairs room will hold 50 or so. :D hope that helps. |

Subject: RE: The Copper Family ,SE London gig March 9 From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 10 Mar 12 - 08:09 AM And we were the third and fourth to get INTO the room! Cracking evening all round. Good club, good floorsingers (Penny S among them, if she is the same Penny whose thyme was stolen) and the Coppers naturally in good voice. You missed a good six quidsworth, Richard. Oh, and one of the best turnouts the club has seen. It's pleasing to see that this remarkable family continue singing to sellout audiences. |
Subject: RE: The Copper Family ,SE London gig March 9 From: Richard Bridge Date: 10 Mar 12 - 08:49 AM I was delayed by a person of gender. But I did see the Coppers a couple of years back at Pig's Ear so it wasn't a disaster. I had been planning to do my rock and roll version of Sir Patrick Spens, so maybe the others present had a lucky escape! |
