Hi Friends,
                   This is your final reminder to make your reservations for the JOHN ROBERTS concert next Sunday at The Borderline.

When it comes to traditional folk music and ballads, there is none better than John Roberts on the performer's circuit today. John is a veteran and has seen and done it all. Blessed with a sweet tenor voice and a magical touch on the Anglo concertina, John Roberts will charm you with songs from his native Britain as well as early Americana all delivered with witty sense of humor. Songs of the seven seas are his specialty. The afternoon will also be an educational experience as John traces the origin and history of each song from England, through Ireland and eventually to the various regions of Norh America in different reincarnations. It is known as the folk process. We are indeed very fortunate to have an artist of this caliber perform at The Borderline.

For those of you who like singer songwriters we have a really good one opening the show, Joe McKay from Secaucus, New Jersey, known to his friends at Backroad Joe. He is also a polished veteran who draws his material from real life events and situations and plays great guitar. Backing him up on bass is Gordon Roherer who played with the late Terence Martin. I personally enjoyed Joe's CD very much and hope to have him as a headliner some time in the future.

The concert is this coming Sunday, March 25th and begins promptly at 2:00 PM. The venue is the New City Volunteer Ambulance Corps located at 200 - Congers Road, New City, NY 10956.
There is plenty of FREE parking on site and for those coming up from Manhattan, the bus from Port Authority stops at our front door. Admission is $20 per person ($15 if you are a Borderline or Pinewoods member), and we ask that you bring a cold pot luck dessert dish to share with 4 other people. Please bear in mind that we do not serve alcohol, nor do we permit it on the premises and this policy is strictly enforced.

For those who asked, Tony is well and is singing a lot locally. Teaching a singing session at the Brattleboro Music Center an running a monthly pub sing. We did our annual Nowell Sing We Clear tour last December, and Tony is planning next year's. As most of us know, he is in a wheelchair with MS, but his energy is as strong as ever. Travel is difficult and we don't work together as much as we we used to - but we still do gigs together and are booked for at least one festival this summer.

I've always worked solo as well as with Tony, so anyone who assumes that seeing me listed somewhere playing alone means Tony is out off action is dead wrong.. Come see our Xmas program next year!

And one and all, do come to the Borderline. I'm really looking forward to it.

Yes, we are "dry" at The Borderline. We are all about the music and that is what our audiences come for. The performers appreciate this and the word has gone out in the "folk community" that The Borderline is the place to play. Anyone who wants to drink can do so after the performance at an establishment right down the road from us who's shows begin after ours have ended.

CJB, two summers ago (I think) Tony was singing at the New Bedford, Massachusetts, Summerfest. I saw and heard him there. He was also scheduled to sing in December, 2009, here.

John Roberts has been singing English folk songs since the early 1960s, when he joined a local folk club in his native Worcestershire. Coming to the U.S. as a graduate student in 1968, he soon joined with Tony Barrand to form a duo which has lasted ever since. While continuing to work with Tony, and with the seasonal performances of Nowell Sing We Clear, John has continued to work as a solo performer, accompanying a broad repertoire of British Isles songs on concertina and banjo. English Balladeer, Songs of The Sea, Master of the Anglo Concertina. John Roberts is considered a "national treasure" in the folk music world. With Anglo concertina and banjo, he sings the traditional songs of his native Britain, as well as songs of the maritime genre in a manner that is highly entertaining.
