Dear All

We have had many emails and messages on facebook which I have passed onto to Mam as she doesn't do internet. I had no idea of all these messages until now and dont know all of you, but they are all a pleasure to read. As I have said already on other forums I am so proud, honoured and lucky to have had him as a Dad. Thanks for all your lovely messages I will show them to Mum thanks to phone technology! The support from everybody has been brilliant and we are all missing him but doing OK, even Mam actually she is probably better than us. On behalf of myself and the rest of the family a big thanks

I saw Jim's obituary in the Whitby Gazette at the White Hart last night. The last paragraph was a beauty.

"A funeral service was held at St. Anne's Catholic church, Ugthorpe where the couple were married, followed by interment in the graveyard"

I think Jim would have liked that one.

Happy memories of Jim and Mu holding my and Clive's wedding Bender back in 1999 in the barn and of many many Benders before and since.
Of sitting in the kitchen drinking Jim's home brewed cider (he always saved the cloudy ones for himself). The fabulous Sunday dinners with so many friends sat around the dining table.
Great times; so sad to lose such a great character and wonderful man.
Sorry I couldn't get to the funeral, but Clive went on behalf of us both.
My feelings go to the whole family, but particularly Mu, his rock.
RIP Jim.xx
Pam, Clive and Toby

Back in the 70s at Whitby Folk Club Jim really encouraged me as I was starting out playing music. The lines above of the Ugthorpe Anthem, Bonny Hawthorn really evoke fond memories of one of the nice guys> My condolences to his Family

I'd like to add my condolences to Mu and the family at the sad news about Jim. I've known them for more than 'half a lifetime' having first met them at Whitby Festival and subsequently the Plough FC back in 1971.
Back in those days I was sceptical about folk music, being mainly into Hendrix et al, but Jim's love of the music, enthusiasm and encouragement soon got me invloved.
That 'spark' lasted all his life as did our friendship and it is an honour and privalege - as well as a great pleasure - for me to be able to say that.

A lovely man with a generous and caring family, he will be greatly missed by all who new him. Tom Wilson

Jim and Mu made me very welcome at the White Hart when I started going and also encouraged me and gave me confidence when I wasn't sure of my singing ability.

Jim was also a great character. I shall miss him.

Such sad news.

The word "stalwart" is an overused one, but here it so understates Jim's long-term contribution to the local folk scene and to charity.

And what a grand character! I can just visualise him, hat perched on head, taking his turn to lead that Great Bender in The Sky (for "sky" read "upper stalls in the stable barn"!).

Yes, RIP Jim.
My deepest condolences and my thoughts and prayers are with the ever-valiant Mu and her lovely family. Hugs....

Sadly I have to report that another great stalwart of UK folk music has passed away to the great singaround in the sky.

Jim Wilkinson ran folk clubs at Whitby and Mickleby for many years and, with his family, raised thousands of pounds for charity through hosting the Black Bull Benders at their home in Tranmire. North Yorks.

I visited him in hospital in Whitby 9 days ago and he was very, very frail but the family were hoping to get him home. I do hope that they managed that

My thoughts are with his wife Muriel and all members of his extended family.

RIP Jim

Hazel Bolton
