Have been trying for years to remember the name of a female harmony group ( think there were 3 members) who recorded an album with the song Wolfe on it. Would have been sometime in the early 90's. They had the most amazing voices. I was given a cassette tape recording of it which I lost during a house move.
Can anyone put me out of my misery?

If you're talking about "Brave Wolfe," I'll bet they got it from the Watersons, who sang it in a cappella harmony the '70s.

The group was Bread and Roses, which was also the name of their LP from around 1987. At the time, the group was a quartet consisting of Sarah Morgan, Alison Muir, Alison Fenner, and Sheila March. I believe that, when I heard them in Whitby in 1990, the group had diminished to a trio.

The song is not the same as "Brave Wolfe". I don't know who wrote it. The tune is very similar to the tune of Stan Rogers' "Northwest Passage".

"Bread and Roses
We first met Bread and Roses, then a quartet at Broadstairs Folk Week back in the late 1980s. The lineup then was as on this track - Sarah Morgan, Alison Muir, Sheila March and Alison Fenner. Later, when Alison Fenner left, they became a threesome and even later Sarah and Alison Muir formed Hen Party with Heather Bradford, that trio continuing until the very sad death of Alison Muir, a person of small stature but enormous heart and personality. The whole room brightened when Al walked into it and she's still sadly missed.
