Beautiful! I hope this experience will serve to give your nephew Emilio Fina the additional training and opportunities he has earned. He seems like a lovely fellow, Adrien.

Here's what he sang: (from http://classicalmusic.about.com/od/opera/qt/nessundormatext.htm)

Italian Text
Nessun dorma! Nessun dorma!
Tu pure, o, Principessa,
nella tua fredda stanza,
guardi le stelle
che tremano d'amore
e di speranza.
Ma il mio mistero è chiuso in me,
il nome mio nessun saprà!
No, no, sulla tua bocca lo dirò
quando la luce splenderà!
Ed il mio bacio scioglierà il silenzio
che ti fa mia!
(Il nome suo nessun saprà!...
e noi dovrem, ahime, morir!)
Dilegua, o notte!
Tramontate, stelle!
Tramontate, stelle!
All'alba vincerò!
vincerò, vincerò!

English Translation of "Nessun Dorma"
Nobody shall sleep!...
Nobody shall sleep!
Even you, o Princess,
in your cold room,
watch the stars,
that tremble with love and with hope.
But my secret is hidden within me,
my name no one shall know...
No!...No!...
On your mouth I will tell it when the light shines.
And my kiss will dissolve the silence that makes you mine!...
(No one will know his name and we must, alas, die.)
Vanish, o night!
Set, stars! Set, stars!
At dawn, I will win! I will win! I will win!

Wow!
I love the way he raised the torches/flashlights at the end.

I wonder if he sings to the airplanes.
I used to work with gas turbine driven generators and would tend to them with ear muffs, singing Joni at the top of my voice because no one but me could hear. I could be loud and fearless.

I hope he goes far. Anything that is less than great about his voice has to do with training and not talent or ability, and he'll only get better. Wish I could get C.G.T. here.

I hope all the Canucks here keep track of CGT, and, if so inclined, vote. Not that it really matters on accounta "a star is born".

Stay with me on the following...

Matter of fact, I'll bet he gets "booted off" early on in the main competition and here's why... these shows are aimed at a certain age bracket and at certain genres in order to sell tickets/CDs. For those reasons, I think he has a slim chance of winning the whole thing, so, he may be cut after a few performances in the main competition AND then signed to a big contract AND have a rewarding career. Seriously, I just cannot imagine why he isn't already off the tarmack and in the concert hall.

Then again, I could be fulla shit. Either way, the lad is gonna make it big time. I'll be voting for him if he sings like that during the competition. If he DOES make the final, I'll vote more than once.

I'm in the dark about this as much as you are Gnu. I just found out like a day before that Emilio was on. They are very strict about telling the public who has qualified. Once it is out in the open than the race is on. But to tell you how it works, I hope to find out soon.

Well, he's through to the next level. And I would think he will make it to the main competition. He's just TOO good not to make it further if he continues to sing like that or get better as the rather haughty female judge said he could (I disliked her attitude... rather arrogant IMO... read "self-important"... snooty... bitch). At that point, it will be up to the voting public as to how far he goes (of course, we all know that is a load of horseshit... people with millions of dollars invested in this TV show use the votes that come in to make THEIR final decisions).

Once again, the only thing that really matters at this point is exposure. Simply put, this CGT... this Canuck Got Talent.

I thought your nephew was wonderful! I don't know much about opera, certainly not the vocal techniques the woman judge referred to, but the last time I heard that was about two years ago when Turandot was screened at my local movie theater as part of the Metropolitan Opera Live in HD events. That's below. Compare for yourselves. I think Emilio's performance stands up well.

Hey folks, this is Emilio here. MY Uncle told me about this site and I am very please that you liked my audition. Keep watching on Sunday's. We will soon find out more. Anyway, to aswer the boot out early guy......there is no age limit. Susan Boyle of Britain's Got Talent was 48 and she made it to the final 2. (she did not win). She got signed soon after.

Anyway, who cares....just love life. I have been blessed to have a family who loves me and a somewhat secure job that provides for us for the last 15 years. God Bless everyone...and thanks.

...i've listened to Emilio's piece on CGT over and over again. The power in his voice and his truly hitting the " high C " was incredible. What really struck me is how long he hit that "high C" note for...i think around 12 seconds...just unbelievable. I did not care much for the female judges comments...he was pure and simple sensational.

That original clip has been removed; "copyright infringement". That "female judge", btw, is literally a diva - an operatic star by the (certain to be misspelled) name of Degouzian. From NB. So, it's likely she knows what she's talking about, whatever her 'attitude'. (She's the one I've seen on there, the couple of times I've caught the show).

You are right meself, she is a diva and if Emilio is stopped it will be her who does it. The other two judges probably would never have picked up on her observation. Hell I'm a singer and I didn't. But being in the opera field she is in tuned to it.
Best wishes Emilio and will see what happens.

Whatever our opinions may be about the person giving the advice regarding supported breathing, it is very useful advice and fairly easily accomplished... and can not only help in this competition, but can protect that beautiful voice.

"For the next three weeks of "Canada's Got Talent," semi-finalists will show off all of their skills during special 70-minute shows. The first one airs on Monday, April 2nd at 8pm. Viewers will be able to vote on the semi-finalists immediately following the program."

I agree with Beer and maeve. She seemed self-important and arrogant BUT if she can help him with coaching and in his professional career, bring it on!

Alas, I am truly saddened to find out (so far) that I cannot watch the program. Must be some kinda deal with infringement on "Canadian Idol". It's only on City TV out of Toronto and that channel is not carried by my cable company.

Thanks, Jeri, I've been there without any satisfaction; and it is the live show I'd watch to see Emilio's performance on the 15th.

I have seen references to Americans watching the show via a live feed, and wonder if that might do the trick, but it's a bit out of my experience to know where to find such a thing.

Thank you for reviving this post ladies. Here is a little information that was sent to me in case there are some of you out there who are eligible and willing to vote.
ad.

From 9pm-2am, you can vote up to 50 times (ten times for each metho...d) which are as follow:
...
1. Call the number at the bottom of the screen after he sings (I'll post it for those of you won't be able to catch the show!)
2. Vote on-line at canadasgottalent.com
3. go to the Canada's got talent Facebook page to vote
4. Twitter your vote by going to the Canada's got talent webpage Tab
5. If you are a Rogers subscriber, you can text "vote" to the number displayed after he sings.

You are more than welcome to share this or my post with all your friends :) We need as many votes as possible (think of the dance groups that have a whole network of people voting for them....)

Here is a video of his audition. Please post it to your wall and help get his name known for the voting round! Thanks.

Yes, gnu- I'm still looking for an online live link that would allow you and me and anyone else who wishes to watch. I have read that at least one exists... something like Max's radio show streaming, I think.

I have Rogers cable. I simply can't get a price out of Bell for their services AFTER the promotion sign-up period. Everything is so complicated with Bell. Every time I deal with Bell I am dealing with someone outside of Canada. The few times I have been able to figure things out somewhat, they are more expensive than Rogers.

A gentleman and his take on *things* was true and welcome. From what I saw on the video, he is the most talented, hands down. But, it doesn't matter if he wins or loses. Like I said, a star is born. He is a star, period. He has a great career to come and it's well deserved.

I'll bet he does better than that diva bitch in the long run. She is fulla shit. Some good shit by times, as she pointed out and her points were well taken by Emilio, but I'll point out the nasty shit maybe just because of the way she said it. Fact is, I have heard of Emilio... never heard of her before this. I'd like to hear her sing but I doubt if she is as good as Emilio. I shall You Tube her and report back.

Emilio said, after the arrogant ***** "always wondered" if he could make the high note (or others) or not after the build-up (I am paraphrasing - can't recall EXACTLY how she said it), "I always make it."

Good on you Emilio! "Inferior" to the other opera singer? What a diva! I vote for Emilio as hands down the best of all the contestants based on sheer talent. Of course, you need more than talent to win these competitions. Ya gotta sell tickets... CDs... concerts. All the talent in the world can't *necessarily* do that.

Just a thought; making it as a professional singer requires many skills in addition to musical ability and personal work ethic. You must be able to take useful instruction whether it's dipped in honey or vinegar, while also being willing and able to stand your ground, confident in your skills and hard work.

Whatever we think of her manner or attitude, and whether or not it's intentional, this judge is giving Emilio a chance to show he has the skills, can learn from criticism, and can balance appropriate modesty with the ability to stand his ground and deal with challenges under pressure. Thanks to her for that opportunity and... "Bravo, Emilio!"

The problem is music is NOT a competition in real life. People don't have only one artist they listen to. Because of the show, lots of people know about Emilio, and hopefully many doors will open to him. So his appearance on the show will likely be a life-changing and career-launching one.

Well Chantey, I think you are correct to a point. However, I also think this could also be a reason. I think that the groups were more able to produce votes, by sheer numbers. The fact that in schools the teachers try to get as many as possible onto the stage, so that more family will come – I think this applies to Talent Shows as well. All in all I am sure that when the high has leveled off, Emilio will be very satisfied for all the exposure he has received.

He has a ton of charisma and such a positive outlook. Enjoy your ride up, Emilio! Who knows, maybe you'll sing in the début of my brother's opera. (though it's tough to get a new work like it done.:-) Anway, I could listen to you sing Puccini every day.

katwhowilllsayIknewhimwhen...well in cyberspace at least:-)

Kat, I don't think that's it. I believe The Gleaner is a weekly paper, and "The Daily Gleaner" probably isn't. I didn't have any luck finding it.

So, lemme get this straight: this guy comes out of nowhere, is seen and heard by hundreds of thousands of people, had thousands of people vote for him and--what?, he lost? Tell me how!

To top that, he sings opera. C'mon, when is the last time ANYone listened to opera? OK, maybe three friends ya never associate with, but really.

He received hard won publicity most singers would give a left nut for, and he earned so many fans along the way. If this is failure, please, give the rest of us some.

Way to go, Emilio, ya done great.

BM

Hi Everyone! I have read every comment and am so very gracious to you all for the support. Thank you dearly. I had a great time on the show and am very lucky to have had this chance. I will never forget it. I will never forget what you all did for me as well, by voting and promoting and just boosting my confidence daily. Thank you ALL SO MUCH! I hope that my wife and I will have to chance to sing for you all real soon. It was really fun 2 weeks ago when I came down.

Blessings,
Emilio

I saw in our paper two Moncton contestants were in the last however many and did well. Ivan Daigle, country singer & geetar man. Angry Candy, rock (?) band, who were in the last three (2? or was it 3?). Both have videos on You Tube.

I didn't see many of the acts on You Tube but I saw Emilio and I am glad I did. What a talent! Not just congratulations, Emilio but I wish you every success in your new career.

I don't think by Emilio's ending statement that he quit understands that this site and the responses from folks are not all from where i live. He referees to the show that he did here two weeks ago as if you were all here or living close by. Anyway, no problem.
He and his wife are willing to do a show in the near future at the coffee house where I book artist so you can all come up and enjoy it.
Ad.

In this thread, he's got Colorado, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island (I think), the UK (maybe), as well as Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick.

I'd try to be there, even if I have to drive home afterwards. I've never been to an operatic coffee house before.

I'm booked till the end of December right now, so maybe a spring fling would be good. What ya think Jeri? or is winter O.K. as well. I'll book around your schedule. How about that. Emilio will be flying so the weather is not an issue.

Ad, winter's probably less better because of crappy driving (unless it's like last winter). Spring-summer-fall would be good. I'm flattered, but book around Emilio's schedule, or yours, or the venue's.

Yes, Jeri, RI is here!

No matter what time of year, I won't be there. I like opera, I love Canada (family roots in Quebec), but a trip there is not in the cards for me.

Sorry for the delay in responding. Lots of relatives and garage sale weekend. Grandson wanted to have one.
I will post again on this thread when I have confirmed when the show will take place. Chantey it is to bad you couldn't make it but thanks for the participation you have made on this thread. Very much appreciated.
