When trying to cut or edit in Audacity there are times when I can no longer place the curser at the precise point needed in the music. Up until about a week ago I could click at any point and remove a section or highlight it. Now there are times the program works fine but sometimes nothing happens when one clicks on a precise spot. It might work a little to the left or right. Any ideas. I have not deleted and reloaded the program yet.

Hi, Arkie -
When things like that happen, it's usually that my computer is full of "stuff" - things that are running that I don't know about. Hit CTRL-ALT-DEL on your computer, and look for the "task manager." You can also hit your "start" button and type task manager in the space that appears just above the button.
Once you know what programs are running, try shutting some of them down. That should make Audacity work better.

It might be that you accidentally checked the "snap to" box at the bottom left-ish area. If that box is checked, uncheck it and try again.

Run CC Cleaner on your computer every now and again. That really helps it to speed up, though I haven't ever had that problem with Audacity.

I had the same issue and it was exactly as Crowhugger described. Y
That's the one to go for.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. In this case, I found and removed a check mark by "snap to" and Audacity seems to be its old dependable self again. Have to say, this was worrying the heck out of me and really created a problem in editing tracks for the radio show this week. Thanks again to all. I try not to run a lot of other stuff when working with sound files, but will admit I get careless from time to time.

If you can afford it, purchase a computer where Audacity can reign supreme. Even then it may be necessary to periodically save and restart the program to clear its brain of all the huge sound files that can be created in a rigorous editing process; they're all hanging around like so many ghosts until you do a restart. Of course, sometimes, you want to go back and those "ghosts" can be channeled. But it's better to save different versions of a track you are working on at critical steps.

Oh, and consider keeping a logbook of all the editing changes you make...

Cheerily,
Charley Noble
