Subject: BS: Shopping ## An Olympic sport From: John MacKenzie Date: 18 Mar 12 - 09:06 AM In response to the UK government's stated intention to suspend Sunday trading limits for the period of the Olympics. The Keep Sunday Special organisation has accused them of turning shopping into another Olympic sport. The response amused me, and I agree with them too. |

Subject: RE: BS: Shopping ## An Olympic sport From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 18 Mar 12 - 01:36 PM I love shopping but I don't actually buy much, just look and admire. Do you suppose all these Olympic shoppers will spend spend spend or just browse? Judging by the extremely expensive tourist souvenirs on offer in London when I was there last, maybe the traders down there are hoping to make a killing. |

Subject: RE: BS: Shopping ## An Olympic sport From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 18 Mar 12 - 06:44 PM we've had Sunday shopping for decades over this side of the pond & some folks certainly treat it as a sport! In Sales time I love to watch the shoppers grabbing stuff & carrying around multiple bags, so that might mean I'm one of the audience sandra |

Subject: RE: BS: Shopping ## An Olympic sport From: DMcG Date: 19 Mar 12 - 05:30 AM For clarification: there is Sunday shopping in the UK, but there are restrictions, such as the permitted opening hours. It is those restrictions that are being removed. |
Subject: RE: BS: Shopping ## An Olympic sport From: Leadfingers Date: 19 Mar 12 - 05:57 AM And how many underpaid supermarket workers will be coerced into working the extra hours ? |
Subject: RE: BS: Shopping ## An Olympic sport From: Manitas_at_home Date: 19 Mar 12 - 08:07 AM Why stop there? Why not relax the laws on drug abuse and prostitution so that the "Olympic Family" can properly enjoy themselves while here? |
Subject: RE: BS: Shopping ## An Olympic sport From: GUEST,Allan Conn Date: 20 Mar 12 - 03:38 AM "there is Sunday shopping in the UK, but there are restrictions, such as the permitted opening hours." And the restricted opening hours only apply to shops over a certain floor size and only in part of the UK. For instance the only real restriction in Scotland is that the staff in retail outlets can't be (or at least shouldn't be) coerced into working a Sunday. |
