I remember going to the centenary 100 years in 1962. I went on my bike as I was too young to drive then but it was a great day out. They opened Balmbras Music Hall to celibrate the event and we played there on quite a number of occasions afterwards.

We took the bus from Balmbras abd it was heavy laden
Away we went aland Collingwood Street that's on the road to Blaydon

We used to play at Balmbra's every Monday night in the late 60s, and it was a great, busy, old music hall.

Went past it a month ago - looking very sad and seedy.

There used to be a folk club in Balmbra's on a Monday night late sixties, early seventies; wonderful location but lousy beer and no atmosphere.

We played there then. I only drank Guinness.

What's wrong with the "When we got to Paradise" verse? Everyone seems to omit that one.
Who did you play with alex; I might have seen you?

I was in a trio - originally The Freewheelers then Mandella (after the wheel of life, not Nelson). We played all over Northumberland and Durham, but mainly along the Tyne valley from the coast to Hexham.
We also ran the Vic folk club in Whitley Bay for a number of years. Ring any bells?
