Subject: RE: 6 Boys - Tribute to British Soldiers From: GUEST,Banjiman Date: 11 Jun 12 - 07:08 AM Six Boys - A Lament. Now available as a charity download from CD Baby . From Wendy - This song was wrenched from me as I heard the news throughout the first week of March 2012, of 6 young British soldiers killed in Afghanistan. They all belonged to the Yorkshire Regiment and whilst one was in his early 30s, the rest were all aged between 19 and 21. Just boys. I wrote it as I sat in the carpark of the Buddhist Peace Park in Milton Keynes, England. This is not a song with a political axe to grind, nor one debating the pros and cons of our presence in Afghanistan, but merely an outpouring of grief at the loss of so many so early in their lives. I decided to raise money for SSAFA (Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association) as it is a charity which does so much to support the families of service personnel. It is well-known to those in the UK Forces and I hope in some small way, this song will help bring their good work to the attention of a wider audience. |
