Tim Leaning how very DARE you even suggest that we were intent (arf!) on thieving when we were wrestling with Nick's tent against the wind. It was interesting to note that twas myself and the esteemed Burton Coggles (aka Pete) who revealed our boy scout hoarding tendencies by immediately brandishing our all-purpose bags of tent repair gear, such as duct tape, spare guy rope and pegs.

In fact as I think about it now, we probably had enough spare kit to build new awnings for all, so we did not really need to attempt to steal Nick's for that purpose in thefirst place.

And Nick himself is being v modest: he did a lot of running around to both set things up and to return stuff afterwards (how many tables CAN one man fit into a Berlingo??)

They weren't rescuing it they were stealing it then you woke up..

Hi one and all

Just say that I thoroughly enjoyed the whole Roxby event. Carl and his family provided a wonderful welcome to everyone attending and kept the beer flowing throughout.

It was an experience camping and I have to thank Scrapyard Guitar and the Foggers and Pete & Ellen Gostelow for trying to rescue my tent.

It was great to catch up with so many people including Ian Kieron and Craig   among many others.

Truly a great event!

Nick

All's well that ends resonably well. Tony, your assertion 04 Aug 12 - 11:30 PM, that I "seem to be hanging on to this folk politics thing...."
is not justified , and fortunately there appears to be no need to pursue this issue, as you have accepted and explained in your post 05 Aug 12 - 07:51 AM that most of the problems did actually exist, for one reason or another.
You are a relatively new-comer to Folk music, and I'm afraid that many folkies from Penzance to Thurso ([only] geographically folks!!!) have stories of how local folk "politics" can screw-up a local folk scene.
Best of luck to Roxby and to all who work hard to provide good quality mini (and the big) Festivals and gatherings.

Cheers Betsy.

Hi; as non locals we had no knowledge of the "local politics" and it is to the credit of Tony and other LAMP folks that no "dirt" was dished to punters like us.

The information in this thread enabled us to deduce that the event had previously been held at Staithes, had moved to Roxby and that the original Staithes venue was holding an event on the same weekend. It was not confusing in the least and several attenders at Roxby (ourselves included) did travel into the Cook at Staithes but found that little was happening.

The Roxby gathering was super and we shall certainly support it again.

Fair point Pete. When it was made clear to me that the festival could not be run at Staithes I sent an email to the festival mailing list which started............ Saddly it is no longer possable to run the 5 day music festival at Staithes ............the Good news is we have found a venue at Roxby ,just two miles inland. The fox Inn has a camping field next to the pub etc.
I thought that was enough explanation as punters are not interested in why some thing is no longer working, just need to know what is working
With hind site I should have started all correspondence with those setances.I have gone beyond the call of duty trying to keep the Staithes pub open but the new management made it impossable. You can throw a lifebelt to a drowning man(pub)If he chooses to swim away from the life belt there is not much you can do about it.
If you look at the Staithes fest on mudcat you will see that there was no fsetival. I belive the dates were advertised just to undermine Roxby.
The details of the problems are not for this site.....dirty linen etc.
If you knew what had gone on i am sure you would agree i had no alternative other than find a new venue. If you want the details i will go through it with you when we next meet.
As for the Vin Session i did not mention Thursday. What it says is a festival Launch on TUESDAY 24th. There were enough early arrivals to fill the room and have a good session which you could have joined in.
Monday was more of a social with Vin.If you had been there it would probably have taken off even more.
Cheers Tony

I say power to your elbow Tony in your efforts to build up Roxby , but the point I was making is that the Staithes "do" with which you have always organised, was running at the same time.
However delicate the matter , a little explanation from you that the two events were not connected, especially to those who were travelling from afar , would have assited those ( and there were people) confused by this arrangement and avoided some inconvenience.

The point is - Locals knew the politic of it all - but folk travelling to the area weren't so well informed.

On Thursday 26th July Vin was playing at Warwick, on the 27th at Thames Ditton , stayed down South on the 28th and when I talked to him on the 29th on his way home, he was worn / bad chest and wouldn't be attending on the Sunday ,though he might be popping over on Monday, so I'm at a loss as how I could have been " in to the sessions with Vin " as you state in you message.

Re Betsy/ Vin
Vin was with me in March when we visited Carl, the new landlord for the first time in March. He promised to come to the festival when bookings allow. When Vin's bookings down south were confirmed he offered to join us on the only dates available to him. This took shape in the form of a festival launch session with the many early arrivals to the festival camp site on Tuesday 24th July. This was the same time the photos were taken by John Stockwell.
On his return from the southern gigs Vin,Pat and two friends joined the festival survivors at the Fox on Monday 30th.

Pete, you still seem to be hanging on to this folk politics thing even though i have explained the reason behind the move, mostly cmping problems.
If you had got to Roxby (as i had hoped) you would have seen the numbers on the camp site would have filled the Staithes site at least three times. I am sure you would have been in to the sessions with Vin ,Marie Little and the many other talented musicians at Roxby.
Thanks Tony

As a man who I have a great deal of respect for and who gave so much help and support when I first bought a guitar and tried to play at Whitby a long time ago, I can honestly say that to upset him in this way is the last thing in the world I intended. This all came about due to one ill informed posting by Dani. The first few lines of my answer to Dani have proved to be painfully true. My full respose to Dani on a posting on 2nd April was:-

Ref dog posting by Dani:- This is the sort of thing that causes a lot of confusion, bad feeling, and time wasting. The blurb was carefully put together and proof read by all parties who have a responsibility to the successfull running of this festival. The blurb is correct and will be circulated in it's present form and content. The land lord may accept dogs out side of the festival. The pub is not big enough to accommodate the expected number of folkies and dogs. As the organiser trying to bring together all the elements of a successful festival , I have to comply with a number of different requirements from a lot of people. The agenda cannot be re-written by any single contributor. I will make this as clear as I can. The info posted on mud cat by Tim Leaning was agreed to by ALL concerned. The setting is in open farm land. ALL the info is correct but just in case there are any lingering doubt, Dogs are NOT allowed, This includes good dogs, small dogs, well trained dogs , quiet dogs, old dogs ,dogs who won't be any bother, dogs who's owners clean up after them . In fact as the info sheet says. NO DOGS. Any one turning up with a dog or dogs, no matter what reason, will be refused admission. Hope this is clear enough Tony

To Tiny Tony, Tim & anyone else who helped with the organisation of the event, many thanks for a fantabulous do & we'll certainly come next year.

Very astute of you to fix the weather so we didn't get wet while outside!!

The campsite was great, plenty of room for all & the landlord & his staff very welcoming.

Good idea overspill campsite/ carpark in adjoining field.

************

Some highlights during our 4 day stay were, of course the superb seshes in pub & barn & also individual performers we enjoyed.

The chap who did 'Ghost Chickens in the sky' & the guy with the didgeridoo with his astonishing Mongolian mouth music!

So many talented singers & musicians there, too numerous to thank individually.

Looking forward seeing snaps/videos.

Cheers to all!!

Just noticed the dog bit..
Did see a cute little dog with a sort of tuft on the end of its tail ?
..also saw Tony with shovel removing a big...ish dollop of what looked like dog shite from the area of the camp in which my grand daughter and quite a few other kids were playing....
I am sorry you decided to take the one post arguing that dogs were allowed against the official handout type thingy that was in the first post and developed further by Tony after the post by Guest Dani..
Hope you found a place for you and yours that was better suited to your party...
The Landlord does allow dogs in his pub and has a static caravan which is used by people with dogs...HE has dogs himself..
The No dogs thing was for the duration of the music festival..
As a (dog less) dog lover I would have to say it was on the whole in my opinion the right way to go...

Mr Happy gave a link above which bounced to a Facebook thingy where John Stockwell (I understand)posted pictures of Vin which suggested Vin was at Roxby this weekend - which he wasn't - he was down South performing.
Just to let you know you didn't miss him performing.
On the "other matter" the opening thread is fairly comprhensive and states " No dogs and no Fires allowed anywhere on the camp site" so it's a bit difficult to argue .

Thanks to everyone who helped to make this a brilliant little festival. We thouroughly enjoyed all of it.

Just a couple of very small issues that I hope no-one takes offence at:

Its in a pub so we've got to expect pub type people to be in there. Sing louder or encourage people to listen by starting off loud and quietening down so they have to listen if they decide they want to hear you (this usually works quite well in a noisy environment). At the end of the day we are invading their space but if we want people to get into folk music, especially younger people, we've got to take it to them rather than singing exclusively to each other (preaching to the converted).

Polite reminder about session etiquette:

If someone appears to be in charge ask what sort of session it is - going round the room or jumping in when there is a break in the music - some people need a second or two to organise themselves. Don't push past people when they are playing guitars etc. just because you've spotted the one seat that appears to be available. It will still be there when the singer has finished. The number of people in the sessions we went to this weekend meant that the only way to be fair to everyone was to do a going round the room thing.

As for dogs its always a difficult issue to deal with. In my limited experience its the owners of some dogs at festivals that spoil things for everyone by letting their dogs run free and cause problems for everyone. If you've slept in a tent that dogs have peed up (its never just one because they follow each other about) it is not a pleasant experience. If everyone tied their animals up on a short lead and exercised them off the field there would probably be less festivals banning them completely as this one chose to do. More than one dog in a session can be a nightmare and if you let one in you could end up with as many dogs as people. At the end of the day its the organisers call as to whether to allow dogs or not and it was made very clear in the original post what the policy was to be.

As I said, we have had a great few days and met some lovely people. Hope to see some of you somewhere very soon.

Olga

Excuse me it is not that I was 'looking for something I wanted'. Do you seriously believe I would have talked my missus into coming, plus dog, had I known that dogs were not welcome?

I really do have better things to do with my time. Credit me please with some intelligence.

I merely scanned the website where I saw a post saying 'The landlord says Dogs are welcome.' I am not going to read through every post on every website I ever consulted. I have supported Tony Leonard before and been to many festivals where dogs are welcome. And I believe they are at Staithes even now.

Quite how the management align 'No dogs allowed ' with their massive sign saying the total opposite is quite beyond reasonable judgement. Would they then have refused a genuine hiker c/w dog who just turned up? Don't answer that - I feel I already know

The place was three quarters empty so just what difference our little party would have made, apart from adding entertainment (consult Tony Leonard on that one) I fail to grasp.

On arrival at the site I told Tony I would enquire at the pub if they would accept our company which he acquiesced with. The management said no. End of really.

Now put yourself in my shoes. We made the genuine mistake of turning up and had gone to some bother to do so, not least driving the 25 miles to support an old friend's do. We were summarily dismissed

If you are happy with the treatment we received that is your choice.

I thought it was pathetic quite frankly and not at all in keeping with what I would consider a kind and measured response to a polite request.

And life goes on. Roll on Whitby. Love to all. Louis Spence

Alas it is a feature of the net that you can find any answer you want. The difficulty can be picking the right one.
The very first post here said 'no dogs' and elsewhere Tony the organiser was emphatic that for THIS EVENT NO DOGS.
"The land lord may accept dogs out side of the festival. The pub is not big enough to accommodate the expected number of folkies and dogs."
"just in case there are any lingering doubt, Dogs are NOT allowed, This includes good dogs, small dogs, well trained dogs, quiet dogs, old dogs, dogs who won't be any bother, dogs who's owners clean up after them. In fact as the info sheet says. NO DOGS. Any one turning up with a dog or dogs, no matter what reason, will be refused admission. Hope this is clear enough Tony"

Answer to Raggytash. Yep, same pub. There's hardly a glut of pubs down that B road is there? That one with sign outside, Dogs and Hikers welcome. Three rooms, there were about twenty people having a good old In My Liverpool Home singaround, all in one room.

I realise now of course that me and me missus and our little Lhasa Apso would have filled the pub to overflowing had we been allowed to enter the hallowed ground. .

Nice to see the celebrated camaraderie of folk gatherings is alive and well and flourishing in Roxby.

Roll on Whitby Folk Festival.

Love to all.

I read on this site a post saying, 'The Landlord says Dogs are welcome'. The outside signage on the pub says DOGS WELCOME. So my wife and I and dog and guitar and harmonicas drove 25 miles to support this festival today. Politely requested at the bar if our dog was welcome. Was told emphatically No by a youn lad and an older lady. So we drove 25 miles back home. Thanks for the hospitality to all concerned - I will not bother again. A pox on 'em.   .

Pitch Report
I was at Roxby Saturday (21st). The main camping field is in great shape. Bookings are well up on previous years. The main site is nearly full . I have arranged, with the landowners to have an overspill field available for any one who arives without a booking.
When entering Roxby Village the site will be clearly marked with 100 yard and 50 yard road signs on the aproach to the site. The entrance is about 50yards befor the Fox Inn so don't be tempted to drive right up to the pub as tuning in the lane will be difficult.Marshalls will be on site from noon Monday. If you need help, ask at the pub or on site. What ever else happens .Please DO NOT drive past the pub with a caravan or motor home. The road beyond the pub is very narrow with hairpin bends. You will get stuck.
Thanks Tony

Re Condition of camping field.
I went for a full pitch inspection yesterday (5th July). I am pleased to report the ground must be really well drained. Even after the recent heavy rain the whole field is still very firm, not even any soft patches in the lower areas. If it can cope with this amount of rain, it can cope with any thing. Just in case any one still has concerns ,there will be a 4x4 on hand to help any one who may have a problem, but I really can't see there being a problem. I will continue to check the camping field at least once a week up to the festival opening.
Thanks Tony

Looking forward to the event. We've never been to Staithes so can't comment but don't see why we can't stay at one site and visit the other once or twice over the five days we will be there. I must say the PMs to clarify things were most welcome and very informative. Look forward to seeing you all. A bit of dry weather wouldn't go amiss though! Anyone got any influence on that one?

Ditto.

With the inordinate amounts of precipitation the country's been experiencing lately, many fest campsites are waterlogged & advice has been for vehicles, trailers, caravans etc to stay off the grass & keep to hardstanding areas such as carparks.

At Middlewich FF this was the case & the carpark was very congested

I'm hopeful I can make it Friday and Sunday. Is there reasonable car parking at the pub (I mean in number of spaces).

I assume the Staithes one we'll still need to use the nearby council car park which is on the pricey side IIRC So it'll probably be Roxby.

Yes Tim, it was the late Bill Newton saddly the music world lost this wit far too soon, I believe he was only 54 when we lost him. I got this from his long term partner. She was happy that Bill is rembered through his songs. He wrote a lot of songs like this. I have two tapes of his.
Thanks for your concern Tim,

Re Betsy
Hi Pete
You and I have been around the folk scene long enough to know that the first line of your comment about what is detrimental to this scene is true and has caused a lot of needless upset in the past. However on this ocassion you have put two and two together and come up with 103. Forget petty polotics and egos. It's this simple. the old campsite was, and still is for sale. The owners could not/ would not gaurantee it would be available, the only alternative was to rent the school field and bring in porta loos. This meant the cost of running the festival had become prohibative. I had no alternative other than to move the festival to a more suitable site. Roxby has a campsite with flush toilets and shower next to the pub. My first commitment must be for the festival and the people who suppot it. This quite simply was the answer to a number of problems. Hope you get to both events and then pass judgment. Your contribution to previous events have always been valued and appreciated. Cheers Tony

Re Mr Happy arriving late,
If you follow the directions from the A171 moor road, the camp site is on the left as you enter Roxby Village, just befor you reach the Fox Inn. This week the owners have installed an easy access gate to the top of the camp field, The new access and aproach to it will be clearly marked. Even if you miss the new access point ,there is another from the pub car park. I will send all pre booked campers my mobile No. Any one arriving in the dark can ring me as they turn off the moor road ( less than two miles away) and I will stand at the gate directing late arrivalls through the new gate.
Hope this helps
Thanks Tony

Mr A ???
I don't know about the motivation for the Staithes Festival..
I have been to previous events there and they always seemed a real nice bunch of people..the beer was excellent and the music and laughs were excellent...

The Roxby festival promises to be the same...Met the landlords son very nice to us..helpful etc.. the venue looked very good ,not the Albert hall but that's not what we were looking for...set in lovely country side area some nice views etc...very convenient camping ..with basic amenities..not the Ritz of campsites by any means but so close to the source of music and inebriation that even I probably wont get lost..
good sized area for beer garden..inside of the pub looked great too.

I cant answer to the motivation of any one else at either event all i know is that for £25 it looks like a no brainer to me with only the weather to be wary of.

Hello Tim :)   as far as the buses go there don't seem to be any going into Roxby village that I've found yet.
The nearest stop seems to be near The Grapes/ Roxby Lane end on the main A171 near Scaling Dam. The Arriva 93, X93 runs on that route but it's a fair walk down a country lane from the bus stop to the Fox.

The Arriva 5, 5a, 5b (also an X5) runs on the A174 coast road with the bus stop at Staithes Lane end, that's just a short walk on a footpath along Staithes Lane towards the old part of the village to get to the Captain Cook.

There seems to be a rumour mill grinding these two events.

A visitor to the White Hart last Saturday mentioned something he had seen on a "Website" which wasn't very complimentary about the organisers of both events.

When I mentioned Mudcat ..."Oh! Mudcat's just tittle tattle this was on a proper website."

He didn't say what the website was, though.

It seems to me it's all tittle tattle.

As they say:- "You pays your money..."

I shall have to check my diary but I am hoping to get along to at least one of them at some time. It also depends on swmbo.

Unfortunately   there are many who look in on the threads and read em.
But they find that some of the people who set out to cause trouble and stir things up make it not really worthwhile posting..
Even more unfortunately that leaves it up to a few of us to keep the thread updated and answer questions as best we can publicly, that we may have received via P.M,
Plus I waffle a lot and try and keep the thread where it will be noticed.
Now I heard from you I gotta get me VG DVD back from me mate who borrowed it over 3 months ago..
You looked even handsomer on the big screen :)

I hope you are wrong about goodwill being in short supply its always nicer when there is plenty of that to go around.

Nick / All .
From time immemorial the thing that has fucked-up the folk scene is petty politics. E.g Two clubs in the same town - won't talk to each other etc. etc. - we've all seen it .
Why the change in scenery ? - we don't know, but personalities and egos may have someting to do with it !!!!
Keep yourself flexible and be able to move between the two situations .
BTW Out of 129 posts on this thread , over half have been fron Tim .

Nick (and others ) I don't believe (regarding campsites) etc that there is a great deal of goodwill between the parties so keep your options open - stay flexible - as I shall.

The Staithes event does have a thread on Mudcat and I am sure that if anyone wants to get details they will be able to help them out on there..

There seems to be a lot of confusion going over who, what and where!

There are two distinct acoustic music events taken place over the same dates - one in Roxby and one in Staithes.

The one at Roxby event has been put together by the organisers of the previous Staithes events. The venue has a tidy beer garden and superb views over the countryside and the pub itself is bending over backwards to make everyone welcome. The main advantage is that the campsite is next door to the pub so is in a really short staggering distance! The failities a clean and tidy.

The list of people attending includes Vin Garbutt, Tim Leeming, Mike & Twilt, Stormcrow, Blackwater and Marie Little to name but a few.

For campsite charges, see Tim Leeming's first post on this thread.

As regards the Staithes event, I gather that it is being organised by the pub itself and not the team who put a lot of personal, unpaid time and effort into organising the previous years' festivals.

If people cannot be accommodated at the campsite offered by the Cook, I am sure the will be enough room at Roxby for them to use and visit both events.

I hope that this helps to clarify the situation.

Nick

I dont know what the story is... Most years when I post details there are trolls. Sometimes just for whatever kicks they get from doing it. Sometimes with an agenda.. Previous ones have been to do with callendar clashes.
My take on it is as a consumer... I have looked at whats available considering price location and likelyhood of hooking up wth freinds and aquaintances for some music and a good time.
I pays me money and takes me choice..
Visited the fox in march seems a good spot..owners seemed nice. . Previous experience of organisors was spot on..what else can i say..
I got my name on most of my posts and we got one anonymous one that appears to be a little off.
On ballance i got no fears for my £25.. And am confident of enjoying the event. :-)

Roxby is going to be a nice reunion of the Yorkshire gathering at this rate! I shall look forward to hearing more of Mr Happy's uplifting repertoire.
And we would not hang out with Johnny Scrapyard if he was one of them drummers wot ruins a session!

Scrap,

To be honest, when I first walked in the room & saw + heard drums, I shuddered, as normally I can't abide 'em in sessions [too loud, off the beat, overwhelming, aaarrrgh!]

However, pleasantly suprised with your contributions, well played, on beat, really added to the ambience rather than detracting from it!

Cheers!

Also enjoyed your songs & look forward hearing more at Roxby

cheers mate it is a lovely area couple miles to the rugged coast..nice beach at Staithes and the local kids swim in the harbor I believe they have boat rides and fishing trips there too.
there are shops with all the usual things an art gallery and a craft/art collective type sales room in the old town.
there is also a coop or sainsbury or some such ,but it is only a small one so no the huge range of stuff you might want.
Whitby is made up with shops and not far to drive or catch the bus.
a few pubs etc.
not far from the North yorks moors and all that there is to do and see there either..

Hiya,
Just had an email from the Captain Cook at Staithes to say they are having an Acoustic Music Festival from July 25TH TO 29TH Free entry and the format is the same as last year, so it looks like history is repeating itself (Dent & Holmefirth spring to mind).May pop in on both as I finish this year's Walk for Amos in Whitby that weekend, 200 miles in 9 days from Windermere to Whitby via Ilkley, York and Helmsley, (more info. to follow).

Good luck to both ventures.

Cheers

Muppett

Although this venue is not a million miles from where I live, I must admit to never having been to Roxby before last Saturday. Ian Swinburne (see Loftus Open Acoustic on Facebook) gigged there that night and we went up a bit early to have a skeggy (thats a Yorkshire look) about the place.   Three rooms with varing degree of separation, beer garden with optional extension into a lawned area depending upon the weather (see discussion above) and a large reasonable flat field (unusual in this area) as camp site.   Landlord is very welcoming to the idea of lots of people in his pub making music, not just at the festival time, presuming they are buying his beer !   Not being a beer drinker, I can't comment on the quality of his brew, but others seemed to be enjoying it to a great degree. In short, a nice pub with stunning views over sea and moor-land and the prospect of a great long week-end with friends old and new. Love & Peace, Maggie xxx

I'm no meteorologist, but do work in the inshore waters just a few miles from your site. I have found these guys a more reliable guide for local conditions than the MetOffice. Though the focus of their interest is not your own, their info is generally sound. Any forecast beyond 4 days here is pretty much conjecture, so it is a bit early to say anything specific.

The coastal strip here tends to establish its own weather system, quite disregarding conditions just a few miles inland. I am unsure whether Roxby will fall within that strip, or conform to the more general weather pattern. Either way it seems wise to hope for the best, but to prepare for the worst.

Mr H,

I suspect that the organiser is a bit fed up of people who think they can do a better job than him of organising the event, which is essentially one he has organised for a number of years now, only at a different venue.

So his shortness with you is understandable.

He also organises singarounds and open mikes locally, so he knows what he is doing.

If you were thinking of trying a camping and music experience at a small rural location this year. Please give coming to Roxby some thought..
If you are decided more or less to come please get in touch through the contact details in the first post and make certain of your pitch.
It is a fairly large field but there are already quite few booking in early ..

He doesn't miss a thing do he ?

if you are thinking of coming and maybe you gotta caravan or camper to tow...there is info about which route to take to the campsite in the first post..
If you follow those instructions the route is quite easy its not very hilly or twisty and you get a good view of the road ahead.
We drove up last year from the other way (from the coast) just in our old car and it is delightful but very twisty very hilly ,usually both at the same time.. It is a rural area and of course there are tractors, horse and other road users that will maek things evn more difficult..

Re Mr Happy Large session tent.
We don't need a session tent. There is ample space inside and outside at the pub.
As correctly stated by Tim Leaning, tentage is already sorted. We have an obligation to the owners neghbours and festival goers to provide a quiet camp site. To try and keep the majority comfrotable the camp site will operate a "NO NOISE" policy from 9.00pm to 9.00am so a session tent will not be allowed on the camp site.
Thanks Tony

I think plans are afoot for tentage in beer garden if you give Tony Leonard an e mail about it he could tell you what has been sorted out
Unless you meant just for yourself doh.. in which case "
Awnings / Gazebos will be charged an additional £5.00. Free if booking is paid before 1st July"
Mr Leonard's E mail being tonyleonard@tiscali.co.uk..
Re Dogs
As i understand the situation there are no dogs and no fires allowed on the field. I don't know what the policy is now regarding pets at eh B&B..
Hello Carol x

If I brought a large session tent in addition to the caravan or trailer tent, would I have to pay pitch fee even though no-one will be sleeping in it?

There's an outside building, i.e. you walk over the garden to enter it but hardly any distance, probably been some sort of storage/barn building at one time with a bar and seats in and I should guess that's where most of the sinning, sorry singing will take place! I wouldn't have thought we would need any more space but there's always the garden, depending on the weather!

Tim,

Thanks for clarifications, sounds like a good do for the money.

So I understand there's only 2 spaces for sessions?

If I brought a large session tent in addition to the caravan or trailer tent, would I have to pay pitch fee even though no-one will be sleeping in it?

It has been pointed out that if you look on the Google thingy for finding places it shows you the farm house across and a bit further along the road...
I have a few pics of the venue which I will try and get on line in some form.. It is a nice spot in the world to be listening to or playing music ..
Oh any ideas where I can put my photos ?
errrrrr ok I will just have to trust you not to be rude..

"This sounds like a song fest - will there be any sessions? ie TUNE sessions?"

Hello GUEST,sessionlass.. It is a music event where the people who turn up make the entertainment...we tend to start off by being in a room with beer and take a turn each to recite sing play to everyone else.. full blown exclusively tune sessions would depend on how many are there who want to do that and what room is available..it is pretty much open plan ..there is no guarantee that a full tune session will take place but there is no reason apart from performer's ? and space/room availability that it shouldn't either.

I am not being off hand and if there is a tune session I hope they might be patient enough to give some of us wannabees a chance to join in..
Hint hint

1 unit (of up to 4 persons for one night) is £10
1 unit (of up to 4 persons for two nights)   £20
if you decide to stay for 3 to 5 nights      £25

This means that for the 5 nights it costs £25 for 1 unit of up to 4 persons..

Now what is a unit ? you may well ask..it is a tent ,a caravan, a motor-home, a camper-van ,folding tent, trailer tent, folding camper etc ..in which up to (and including 4 persons) are going to spend the night..

No Dogs I am afraid to say...Shame for the cannine friendly among us but that is the state of play re Dogs...
so to re iterate the full Five nights camping for 1 unit of up to 4 persons (But No Dogs) £25....
Cheers for the question and thanks for them wot answered ... :)

I thought that Tim had made it quite clear   ............

"Camping is £10.00 per unit per night, caravan, Motor home or tent for up to four people.
For anyone staying three nights or more the cost will be £25.00 per unit."

That would mean that the maximum cost for 3 nights or more is £25

Gosh, it's hard to get a definitive answer to a simple question!

'If you stay for the five nights of the festival it's £25 per pitch.'

If I stay for the five nights of the festival it's £25 per pitch - is that per night or for the whole 5 nights?

If you stay for the five nights of the festival it's £25 per pitch.
Previous years there's been a musicians session in another room over the weekend I think but in the 'singaround' venue musicians can take their turn and play a tune or poets recite, etc. So everyone's welcome.

Can you explain this more clearly, please?

Is it £10/night for 1st 3 nights = £30, then £25 for both the other 2 nights=£25 or £50? - making £55 for the whole 5 nights

Or is it £25 per night for the last 2 nights, making £80 for the whole 5 nights?

It is with regret I have to inform you that it is no longer possible to run the Staithes festival. The growing list of problems has become insurmountable.

The good news is that the new venue ,The Fox Inn at Roxby (just a few miles inland) should prove far more convenient than in previous years.
Campsite at the new venue is right next to the Fox Inn. All the details in the above posted by my techno mate Tim Leaning are correct.
It's got all the ingredients for a brilliant five days.
Cheers Tony
