Hmmm. I thought that transcriptions of most things Lomax collected, got published in his books. I can't find the song in indexes covering most of the Lomax books. Maybe it's in Land Where the Blues Began. I can't find an index for that, and I'm traveling and away from my copy of the book.

Here's the way I hear it:

LUCKY SONG
As sung by Floyd Batts
Collected by Alan Lomax at Parchman Farm, Mississippi, 1959

Lordy, I may get lucky, boys; I just don't know.
Lord, I may get lucky; oh, I just don't know.
Yesterday I, Lord, I get lucky, oh, just a day ago.
Yesterday I get lucky, Lord, just a day ago.

Lordy, I been callin' Roberta for five long years.
Been callin' Roberta, oh, for five long years.
She don't answer, Lord; I wonder, do she hear?

Have to be bad, oh Stella; don't let her cry.
Have to be bad; don't let him cry.
Every time he cry, Lordy, what you think of me?

A long time a-comin', Lordy,
Long time a-comin', oh Stella, you can look for me.
Look for me; rather be back 'fore the summer gone.
I may be in a hurry; oh, I can't stay long.

Lordy, skippin' and dodgin', Lordy, comin' just the same.
You can tell my woman, Lordy; don't tell my wife.
You can tell my woman; don't tell my wife, Lordy.
Be by to see her, Lordy, if I don't stay long.
