Subject: RE: Help: How to begin???? From: Rana Date: 13 Oct 99 - 12:05 PM Hi, How to begin, I can only list some of my favourites which is probably a tip of the iceberg. You might want to go to the Ceolas website (see link section in Mudcat) or try the Irish trad links there. You may also want to see rec.music.celtic for what people are talking about. Anyway, some I like Dervish Nomos - Niall Vallely is possibly one of the best concertina players I've seen - his solo CD is very good. The obvious also: Planxty Bothy Band Andy Irvine Kevin Burke / Patrick Street Christy Moore and now my mind goes blank. Anyway enjoy searching around Rana |
Subject: RE: Help: How to begin???? From: GeorgeH Date: 13 Oct 99 - 12:49 PM Tomas Lynch's "Crux of the Catalogue" is the finest record of Irish music ever made . . IMO, clearly. On the Linecheck label. G. |
Subject: RE: Help: How to begin???? From: Magpie Date: 13 Oct 99 - 01:31 PM Hello there Federico! Some of my favourites are Arcady, they do lovely traditional tunes and songs. An other band I enjoy is Anam. There's also a brilliant new band (Well, they have been around for a few years, but haven't made it up among the "stars" yet) is Lunàsa. All brilliant young musicians, among them Mick McGoldrick (flute, whistles and pipes), Donogh Hennessy a deadly guitarplayer, John McSherry on pipes (from an incredibly talented family) Sean Smyth, a young doctor and fiddler and Trevor Hutchinson from Waterboys on bass. They're worth some money. Magpie |

Subject: RE: Help: How to begin???? From: katlaughing Date: 13 Oct 99 - 02:03 PM Welcome to the Mudcat, Frederico. It never hurts to ask around here; you will always get some answers. For a quick way to hear some good Irish music, free of charge, try this Green Linnet link. If you have Real Audio, you can listen to full albums, on line. If you don't have Real Audio, you can download it for free from the Mudcat or at Green Linnet. Some of the bands mentioned above are available on that site. Good luck and have fun! katlaughing |
