Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2012 From: foggers Date: 04 Apr 12 - 11:23 AM Huzzah! Come on down folks! We (the Backyard Buskers) will be at the Postcard on the Saturday afternoon; it will be a session so come along and join in, or just listen and enjoy! |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2012 From: GUEST Date: 04 Apr 12 - 11:42 AM Hey foggers, I was asked to lead that session in the Postcard on Saturday afternoon (more in the sense of making it happen rather than musically!!) after I asked back in Feb whether it would be possible to have some sort of bluegrass jam this year. So I've set up an event on Facebook - Alex told me you guys would be coming along so I looked you up but I can't work out how to "invite" a band...! Very happy to hear you're going to be there. I've invited various other BG and OT players from both sides of the Pennines to come over and help us have a good session. Just to clarify for others (sorry for the thread drift Alex) that said session in the Postcard on Sat afternoon will be a bluegrass & old time session. I'm sure that there will be a number of other sessions throughout the weekend that are more mainstream "folk" whether that be Irish, English or singaround. I guess details will be in the programme once that comes out. Cheers! Maria |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2012 From: Alexis Date: 04 Apr 12 - 12:36 PM Irish session (with Nooney) will be (as it usually is) Sunday Afternoon in the post card. English (ish) session on Friday in Carniceria (hosted / led by Andy Valentine / Good Egg Band French dance refresh and chance to join in with the band also on Friday upstairs in Brambles (formerly the White Hart) |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2012 From: TopcatBanjo Date: 04 Apr 12 - 01:19 PM Aaargghhh, that GUEST above was me, I didn't realise it had randomly logged me out. Sorry. Thanks for the info Alex. I imagine there are likely to be English and/or Irish tunes sessions taking place spontaneously in the Nook on the Saturday too? (There usually are.) Maria |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2012 From: foggers Date: 04 Apr 12 - 03:39 PM Hi Maria- we do have a Facebook page but if you can't work out how to extend an invite to us tell me what the name of your page is and I'll go look for it. |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2012 From: BanjoRay Date: 04 Apr 12 - 03:59 PM Sounds great, but I'll be in Spain at Kate's fiddle workshop... |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2012 From: TopcatBanjo Date: 04 Apr 12 - 05:01 PM Hi foggers, I worked out who you were from your band member info and sent you the event link! Ray, That's a shame! See you at Sore Fingers next week though. M |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2012 From: Jack's Rake Date: 05 Apr 12 - 09:55 AM Bah ... We have to miss this fine festival for the second year running because we're playing at the May Langdale Festival again. We're playing the September Festival next year though so we'll be able to get along again. **Thinks**: "Surely it's about time we were booked to play at this festival" ... www.jacksrake.co.uk |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2012 From: GUEST Date: 07 Apr 12 - 02:48 PM "Surely it's about time we were booked to play at this festival" Have you asked anyone? Don't forget, we are also celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Luddite uprising. There will be a play and other stuff to commemorate this (Ask Soldier Boy for a clue) |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2012 From: Zany Mouse Date: 07 Apr 12 - 04:45 PM Is Holmfirth the Last of the Summer Wine town? In other words, probably too hilly for my wheelchair. Rhiannon |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2012 From: Jack's Rake Date: 07 Apr 12 - 07:32 PM "Have you asked anyone?" Yeah ... e-mailed a couple of times in the past. Ignored. We'll keep trying. |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2012 From: Alexis Date: 20 Apr 12 - 05:37 AM Programmes are on sale now (in Holmfirth) and there is of course a face book thingy. Holmfirth festival of Folk |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2012 From: r.padgett Date: 20 Apr 12 - 02:47 PM Rhiannon, Holmfirth town centre is largely flat and The Old Bridge and Picturdrome are next to each other in the centre. One or two steps here and there but should have wheel chair access!! Nook front area flat, one or two other pubs are a bit user unfriendly, but a dancers festival too with outside events is a usual If the weather is good no probs! Ray |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2012 From: Alexis Date: 29 Apr 12 - 03:24 AM Only 2 weeks to go. Blowzabella tickets selling fast. Paper ones now available as well as virtual ones. |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2012 From: Zany Mouse Date: 29 Apr 12 - 02:29 PM Thanks, Ray. If our campervan is working we might get along there. Rhiannon |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2012 From: Alexis Date: 07 May 12 - 02:27 PM Update on camping for campervans and caravans - owing to the weather, a further pitch inspection is taking place this week to check if we can re-open van bookings. It has been terribly muddy there and unfit for any more vans than we had already booked in. Fingers crossed. |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2012 From: migginz Date: 08 May 12 - 02:18 PM I've got a programme (hurrah!) and note that the upstairs room at the Carniceria is booked for singarounds on Saturday and Sunday. Only one session is organised (2-5 on Saturday) so if you are looking for singing space try there. I'll stick my nose in when we've finished dancing cos I fancy a sing! |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2012 From: Alexis Date: 08 May 12 - 04:22 PM We try to please:) |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2012 From: Hamish Date: 09 May 12 - 03:45 AM Not long now, indeed. Will be a cracker. I think I'll be running a ukulele workshop on Sunday morning: exact time and location to be confirmed. And here's the blue clicky for the festival website |
Subject: RE: Holmfirth Festival of Folk 2012 From: Hamish Date: 09 May 12 - 07:43 AM Yes - if I'd known where to look, I'd have seen that the Ukulele Workshop is in The Nook at 10.30 on the Sunday morning. The full programme is here |
