Subject: BS: Mrrzy is living in interesting times...
From: Mrrzy
Date: 07 Apr 12 - 02:42 PM

Well, back in January, as some of you know, my pub closed.

Then, my car died. I didn't complain here because it was my fault for not sliding some oil to her when she needed it (musical reference alert). Yes, I actually killed a corolla through neglect.

Then our landlady told us to declutter or be evicted, so we did.

But, she's evicting us anyway. We need a place by the end of the month. Single parent, twin teenagers just finishing their junior (3rd) year of high school, and 2 small cats. Just as well I don't believe in curses.

Are we having fun yet?

Well, at least you won't blame God for it...(which is an odd thing that some people do when things don't go as well as they had hoped.)

I do hope you find some speedy solutions to your difficulties, Mrrzy. You are facing major challenges, that is for sure. You're in the southern USA somewhere, aren't you?

Hugs from me, too -- alas, all I can offer right now other than good thoughts and lots of white light.

Going through my own trials. (See Curmudgeon thread.)

Builds character, doesn't it? Geez, I don't know about you, but I thought I was enough of a character to start out with.

Seriously, I wish you all the best. And may it work out better than your wildest dreams.

Mrrzy-

Lou and Peter Barryman had a nice song about living in one's car. Is that your idea for the Nissan Sentra? Charlie King composed a song called "Self-Storage," as another alternative housing song.

Movin day, movin day
Pick your (somethings) off the floor
(something something) going out the door
Cause it's movin day
Pack up all your grips and get away
If you spent every cent you can live out in a tent
It's mooooooovin day.

What about taking a very short lease on a small apartment, 6 months, moving now, and using those 6 months to find something better?

The car I looked at failed the mechanic's audition. The other one I was looking at got sold while I was looking at the one that flunked.

Life goes on, it happens every day
So 'preciate what you got before it's taken away
Life will hit you when you're unprepared
So be grateful and take all that you can while you're there
Take that frown off your head
You're a long time dead (?)
Life goes on and on and on

Yeah, well, on the other hand, you might only be "dead" for a second or two. All we ever know consciously is being alive, and that might continue after what we call "death". We won't know till we get there.

One would think that Mrrzy could at least make it to an internet cafe, if they still exist. Meanwhile there are always these verses from The Pity the Downtrodden Landlord Songbook to muse over:

Chorus:

I'm bound for that beautiful city,
My Lord has prepared for His own;
Where all the redeemed of all ages
Sing "glory" around the white throne;
Sometimes I grow homesick for heaven,
And the glories I there shall behold:
What a joy that will be when my Savior I see,
In that beautiful city of gold.

We'll never pay rent for our mansion,
The taxes will never come due;
Our garments will never grow threadbare,
But always be fadeless and new;
We'll never be hungry nor thirsty,
Nor languish in poverty there,
For all the rich bounties of heaven
His sanctified children will share.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Aargh. Thanks, and yes, I am bad at doing anything other than car- and apt-shop when i do get online...

So, my month's notice is halfway over, no sign of an apt yet, and I am also still looking for a lawyer as I don't think you can really evict peopple for things that were true when you renewed the lease. On verra.

And I am still in a rental car, which I do NOT plan on living in!

I spate in me fist and I picked up me stick
And up the coach road like a deer I did trip
I cared not for bailiff, landlord, or Old Nick
And I sang like the lark in the morning...

(Not yet true but a lovely verse...)

La Freeway

Pack up all your dishes,
Make note of all good wishes,
Say good-bye to the landlord for me,
Son-of-a-bitches always bore me;
Throw out them LA papers,
Moldy bags of vanilla wafers,
Adios to all this concrete,
Gonna get me some dirt road back street.

Chorus:

If I can just get off of this LA Freeway,
Without gettin' killed or caught,
I'll be down the road in a cloud of smoke
To some land I ain't bought, bought, bought!

Looking for a lawyer? Isn't there a not-for-profit housing agency in your region? Something like that?

I don't mean a body that rents housing, I mean an agency that keeps an eye on landlords and gives advice.

We, our three kids, six cats, one dog, and two birds lived in a motel room for three months as we waited for the place we were going to rent to become vacant/lease ran out. It was an adventure, but doable. Maybe it would work for you as a stop-gap measure?

there is a possible 6-months lease on a small apt available now BUT I have finally actually gotten to talk to a lawyer and she can't evict me just by sending me a letter, she has to take me to court, and until then there is really nothing she can do if I stay here... so I am worrying more now about the car, and will continue to fight the eviction. If we can stay another year, hostile landlord or not, the boys will graduate and I can go live with my mom who will need me by then, is the plan.

I am relieved about the court thing - since she has filed no papers, I have more time than I thought. I was under the impression that she could just show up with bailiffs and they would toss all my furniture out into the street...

So back to trying to buy a car!

I think the analogy I was not thinking of was Herding cats. But spitting on a fish sounds about right too!

Well. A reprieve. Good. I thought at the beginning it sounded like very short notice to evict you, but I don't know much about these laws here, let alone elsewhere.

Also, I wondered if she had told you to declutter because she knew she was going to try to get you out and was afraid you would be one of those tenants who left a lot of stuff behind for her to deal with.

Whatever paths you choose, I hope you will keep us informed.

Has your lawyer advised her of your plans. Just avoid a confrontation on the first of the month.

And if it's a Dachshund you're trying to evict, it can take even longer. They can increase their specific gravity by 800% at will!!! This happens, for instance, when you're trying to make them go outside...and it's raining.

I thought you might learn that an eviction isn't so easy once you spoke with an attorney. My brother is in Real Estate (in California) and they do some property management - there are people in California who make it a practice to rent then get themselves evicted by landlords who are so desperate to have them leave that they pay them to move, even though they stopped paying rent months earlier. I know that's not where you're at - those people are taking advantage of laws set up to help someone like you.

Upon legal advice I sent landlady an email saying we wouldn't be moving, and she sent back Yes you are, which I forwarded to lawyer saying How do I respond? Advised not to bother, I haven't... so it might be interesting this weekend, I think I'll encourage the boys to have their larger friends over, he he. Definitely not going out of town, though.
How are all of your lives?

Mrrzy-

It's useful to remind the landlady that you're aware that she'll need a court order to legally evict you. Then maybe you can agree to something more agreeable as a date to move out.

A tenant who know his or her rights is a force to be reckoned with.

That is true but it also makes people who would have been interested in having a small rental unit or two and who would do their best to be good landladies just stay out of the business entirely for fear of all that could happen to them from renters..I know..this has been my situation...you can be destroyed by bad renters..you can be forced to accept bad renters...so many people smarter than me just won't do it..that leaves it to people with lawyers, managers etc. who can afford loss of rent, legal processes etc. mg

I see you subscribe to the CarTalk approach to their program, in which they have three halves. :)

Be polite to one and all, and if the sheriff should arrive on the porch, ask for the documents that need to be file. But I can't imagine a constable or sheriff would try to evict someone without proper papers in hand, and from a court order.

Hey, if I'm from anywhere, it's from the earth!

As I said, I don't deny the damage, I deny that she has to throw us out now, when she's renewed the lease *more than once* with the damage existing, AND even more especially *after* we cleaned up and did all the other stuff she wanted (and which we, well, I, needed to do, sure, but the point is, we DID it). So she can wait till the twins finish high school next spring, they've lived here since they were 3 for crying out loud.

I know, the wits will say, they're twins, they've always been 2.. {;-)

A certain amount of wear and tear is expected in a rental situation. Did the clutter/damage go beyond a normal accumulation of stuff or a normal amount of wear? Things can be fixed, as you say, and if they continued while you had leases renewed, it seems to suggest it wasn't a concern. I was in an apartment for 2 1/2 years between divorce and buying a new home. When they inspected there were some splashes on the wall, slight stains next to the trash can where tomato sauce or tea bags had splashed on their way into the trash. Even with regular wiping down, the spots left stains - nothing structurally wrong, just a cosmetic thing that paint will solve. She commented that since we'd been there over two years it was covered as a reasonable kind of mark to expect. If I'd stayed less than 2 years I might have had to pay for paint.

Maybe it isn't too bad - my "Check Engine" light kept coming on and they couldn't find out what was wrong - the car ran okay. It has now been permanently "on" for well over a year. The mechanic said there are lots of things, some major, some minor, that can cause the light to go on. When it's flashing that usually means a major problem, when it's just on - maybe it's a major problem but it might not be. My car has been running fine so maybe you can get away with it for a while...Good luck!!!!

If you are not a high mileage driver go onto turbobricks (website - google) and start looking out for a nice used 2 or 7 series Volvo estate - you will get one as cheap as chips, they are spacious and comfortable. Remember they are 20 years old and budget for maintenance and check the oil and water daily and keep a spare fuel pump relay and you will probably be fine for another 10 years. They rust less than almost any other car. The catalyst equipped ones should fly through emissions testing (smog testing). But they do do only about 25 to the UK gallon (less of course to the US gallon).

Sometimes, if you park a vehicle on a slope with the front end downward a "vacuum pressure" in the gas tank will cause the check engine light to come on. SOMEtimes, merely taking off and replacing the gas cap will clear it. If not, at my Ford dealership, it costs $68 + 13% tax to clear it... or $10 cash for my buddy at my service station. He never wants the money but I tell him if he doesn't take it I will drop it on the ground and walk away and that would be rude so, "Please don't embarass me."

Apropos of "check engine" light: I have a 2011 Ford Focus. Early last year the "engine malfunction" light started to come on at frequent intervals, accompanied by an apocalyptic bleeping noise and the car going into limp mode. The first time it happened I called out the AA man, who, having plugged in his diagnostic gizmo, told me that it was something to do with my turbo overboost (or was it underboost?) and that he couldn't fix it and it might cost me hundreds. Well, I noticed that all I ever had to do to get the car out of limp mode and banish the warning light was to turn off the ignition and turn it back on again. After a spate of this happening, well, it stopped happening, for over a year. Last week it did it again, twice. Same solution: ignition off then on again. It's done 300 miles since the last time and the car goes like a bomb. In fact, since the first time it happened, I've done 30,000 miles trouble-free. I sort of know when my car is playing up and I don't need nannying by an onboard computer. And if I think I hear a funny noise, I always try the time-honoured solution first: turn the radio up!

Mrrzy, How much do you charge for a psych diagnosis?

Buy one get one free?

Lucy charged 5 cents but with inflation today that is $20

You could incorporate under the dept of education and sell advice , like a Psych monitor.

You could open a revenge service and use volunteers.

You could charge fees via the internet to put voo doo curses on Trump/Hillary.

Open an exclusive internet dating service for medical personelle to join knowing they are short of time.

Open a lyric request service?

That is why I suggested incorporating under the dept of education.
Freedom of speech protects you to speak. You may not be permitted to diagnose but when 22 vets are killing themselves everyday who needs to diagnose. There is no more risk than running a bar. Collaboration with WW is helpful. You may know that suffering vets often feel the need to have some sort of weapon, like a security blanket. General Practitioner referral notification is another safeguard.

Or one could sell election toys on pinterest.

Or sell hedge funds to protect $ should Trump win.

I think it will eventually be something you find fun that will be profitable.

Hi, Mrrzy. I will now pass along some tips on interviewing which I learned from a speaker who had been an HR person and had conducted many interviews.

1. Get your hair styled. (This was aimed at college students, most of whom let their hair just grow.)

2. Get your teeth cleaned, so you will feel more confident about smiling.

3. Smile during the interview, so the interviewer will picture you about the place, smiling.

I think the last thing is the most important.
=========
I'm sorry for your many misfortunes, but I hope the interview goes well.

Mrrzy, about those phone calls for work: you could have been sleeping, in the shower, somewhere in or out of the house where you couldn't hear the phone . . . I hope it doesn't count against you.

Hi, Mrrzy. There's a reason why people invented lying.

If anybody says you were "turning down work," claim that you were reaching for the phone when awakened from deep sleep, and you knocked the phone to the floor, putting it out of commission until you.....

(Why doesn't a school identify itself? It could be trying to reach a parent about an emergency.)

...so, of course, my car was dead when I tried to leave. It's still there.

Me old mither once told me that most of the time when a car won't start, it's the battery. I hope that's all it is.

One way to find out: get a bunch of friends to push it to the top of the hill, get in, get 'er rolling in second gear with your foot on the clutch, and once it picks up a little speed, ease off the clutch and the engine will catch. A bit of driving and the battery should get back into order, unless it actually needs replacing.
Oh, wait, though, I don't know the automatic-car version of this…
If it's not the battery, the second most common thing is plugs 'n' points, which aren't a dear thing to fix.

Thompson (is that Dupont or Dupond?) - I have a stick, but it was on the flat. I didn't think it could be the battery but they tried to say it was, so I told them to look harder and they found the wire that connects the guggle to the zatch, or is it the frippin to the krotz, was loose... but I got it back for $100 including the non-tow, so hah.

Of course this morning they called and cancelled today's job, but hey, I'm ON. THE. LIST. And my car runs. Lah di dah.

So, I went to NoVa for tea, to meet a family into which one of my nieces is marrying, and someone totalled my car on my way back to the highway. No injuries - I was sitting waiting to go left, they pulled up and sat to my right waiting to go left, and when traffic cleared they forgot I was there and just went, so the entire length of their car scraped the entire length of my car. But insurance says 2 doors and some frame work are more than my car is worth, and it took me FOREVER to find a stickshift.

My mom bought me that car just before she died, too.

How are your lives? Any of you French, for instance, and how's that Brexit going for you who are Brits?

I was at the beach, we had left the day before. Made the whole Where did you come to the beach from conversation really, really difficult, especially when the family had small children.

Then we went to totality for the eclipse, and only just got back. That was beyond cool.

Meanwhile, Charlottesville is going to cover the statues with black, for mourning they say, because we can't move them, apparently, there are laws right now that prevent their removal.

I will have to do a pilgrimage of sorts around the town and reclaim my memories.

seconding chantylasses's post.

Years ago a friend's daughter has several involuntary admissions - once a taxi driver saw her behaving erratically so took her to hospital - but she talked her way out after a day or so (yes, I'll take my medicine, I'll stay with my dad ...) Her final involuntary admission led to her "escaping" so she was then committed for long enough for treatment to work & last I heard back with family & friends, working & part of society, no longer a 20-ish bag lady.

Mrzzy I share the anguish of kids in jeopardy. It feels hopeless but isn't. The future is on their side.

Employment is hard edged. In the final analysis people don't really care about you unless they want something from you. An employer will care more about the job, unless you are self employed or working for friends or family.
Will the job be a service or a product?
only the future knows. No job is BS. It might be a stepping stone.

Kid is out, and I saw them pick up refills of meds (seemed to be about a week late but I'll take it). Doesn't contact me unless in need, of course, typical and refreshingly normal parental complaint, so I guess fine as I haven't heard anything lately.

Cops would/could neither arrest nor take son in for paych eval. I had to go to magistrate to get separate warrant for psych eval. Roommate had to go to magistrate, after ER, to get charges pressed. No idea what happens when both mental and criminal things going on. Will keep you posted. The only thing the cops eould do was put in a restraining order. I don't think they believed us that it wasn't a domestic abuse thing. I am once again disgusted with US health care.

Do you ever think, "It's quiet ... too quiet ..." ?

In the bad old days when I was married to Mr Wrong, I occasionally found myself poking around in search of the new problem that had yet to find me on its own. In his case, it was usually a secret stash of vodka, or a surreptitiously drained bank account. I count myself lucky.

Cops hate confusion, so they're often bad at dealing with people with mental illnesses. They would much rather face actual evil.

Here's hoping for an acceptable, non-destructive outcome.

CAT scan was clear, so that is something.

We did get a 3-day hold, and the mental health resource person was pretty sure they would commit him. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

There are levels of concussion, and the number of them is as telling as the severity.

Neurosurgeons and other brain injury experts emphasize that although some concussions are less serious than others, there is no such thing as a minor concussion. In most cases, a single concussion should not cause permanent damage.

He called yesterday looking for places to stay so I know they are letting him out but the cops are looking for him so if he surfaces he'll go to jail, where I would rather have him than loose, frankly. I am freaking out from eating carbs this weekend so took a chill pill last night. It is being recommended that I try for a restraining order too so that if he comes here he can be arrested, but right now if he is *anywhere* he can be arrested, plus I can't drive for a day or so...

At least the cops can tell me if they arrest him. I did not like being out of the loop.

He was hospitilized on occasion & always came/was brought "home." I have no idea how the situation ended as she stopped coming to meetings due to her very bad health.

Mrrzy, I have a close relative who has made himself the black sheep of the family, and when I hear of a shooting in the area where he lives I cross my fingers and look it up, hoping it isn't him. So far it hasn't been, but he continues to live on the edge. Lots of lost jobs, disputes with co-workers, and of course he knows better than anyone the truth of what is going on when others are "wrong, but blame him." In his telling, the bosses always end up agreeing with him, but somehow still seem to let him go. He's mostly hardest on family members, so we just stay out of his way.

I hope there is a good outcome for you in this.

That was *last* year's assault... After that, son lived in a hotel for a while, then opted to be homeless.

I was handing out soup last winter solstice and gave him soup before I recognized him. He was unpleasant to me, but not belligerent.

He would ignore me if he saw me on other occasuons. He posted something weird about martial arts and the cops once, he still has Facebook.

Then (what keb refers to) was I heard while I was out of town that he got arrested, and when I looked up public records there were 3 things, an assault arrest in Feb, and a lewd and lascivious plus another assault and some emergency order thing from June 5. I called the jail, he'll be there till court July 1, no bond. He is in quarantine or was when I called because everybody gets quarantined, he has not asked for counseling. So other people are safe from him right now. I felt more relief than anything.

Then I had a long talk with the arresting officer. She did not remember what she arrested him for in Feb but what he did in June was, to my mind, a serious escalation of his mental illness, being that he grabbed a woman by the tit and then dropped trou. She and her friend brought the willywagging charges, the emergency thing is a restraining order against him.

I have emailed the prosecutor of record and the commonwealth's attorney asking if the case can be moved to mental health court but have not heard back.

So one hand, relief for safety of others; other hand yikes, he has never been sexually violent before, and thinks of women as people (or at least did growing up). And on the gripping hand, I have no standing, legally, to request mental health court. Probably up to the victims.

So, yeah, interesting times.

When adult children have mental health problems there isn't a lot a parent can do, unless they make a specific threat that they will hurt themselves or someone else. Or you. Calling police (dicey) or a mental health intervention service that works with police (much better) might get a 72-hour hold in a hospital psych ward, but beyond that, the control is in the hands of the grown child.

In college I rented the downstairs apartment in a house owned by friends who lived upstairs. They had an adult son who needed a diagnosis and medications but it took a while before it finally happened for him. If I was home and I heard a pattern of loud stomps on the ceiling I was to race outside, around the back of the house, and up to their back door and let myself in. That happened a couple of times (once it was because the pigs got out of their enclosure and I had to help round them up) before it finally worked - Tommy was there, he was so angry and hurt and sad all at once, and made a declaration that he would kill himself or them - so when the sheriff arrived I was the witness. ("Please don't cuff him tightly, he's ill, not a criminal!") That 72 hours made a difference and started him on a path of treatment. Last I heard he has a normal life and a family of his own. It can work. I hope it does for your son also.

I got there early and talked to the prosecutor, who taught me the term "therapeutic docket" and said son had to request it. Yikes.

It was his actual trial. He claimed that the jail never gave him a PIN so he hadn't been able to hire a lawyer. Offered the choice to continue without one or wait to have one, he opted to proceed without one.

He only ran on a bit. Not too psychotic-seeming. Malheureusement. The judge at the beginning asked me if I would help with bail, I said I would help if on therapeutic docket, at which point son told me to leave the courtroom because he "doesn't like" me but he was on video from jail so I just went to the back.

He pled Not Guilty to everything, offered no defense, did not cross-examine, guilty on all 3 counts. Prosecutor recommended therapeutic court for sentencing AND HE AGREED! Excellent news!

If he complies there will be a lot of therapy and help with housing and employment. If he doesn't, 11 months of jail (12 months, 11 suspended). I don't think failure to comply results in hospitalization, but in loss of suspension of the prison sentence. However, the initial eval may result in instant hospitalization.

I was able to say sorry to all the vics, which made me feel better, and they all seemed happy he would be getting treatment, which even more so. 2 of them knew him as a regular homeless guy they saw when going to work on the Downtown Mall.

So here is what he actually allegedly did:

Vic 1 works in front of a plateglass window fronting on the courtyard son often slept in. One fine day he stood in front of her window with his back to her, pulled his shorts down and wiggled his bare ass at her, turned around and wiggled his front, turned around looking over his shoulder at her and wiggled some more... She moved so her monitor blocked him but he kept at it FOR OVER AN HOUR till her boss noticed, and *he* called the cops.

Vic 2 lives somewhere off the Mall and first saw son talking to her landlord in her front yard, then a few minutes later when she looked out the window son was starkers, so she called the landlord, but he (son) got dressed and left. But then later when she came home with groceries he was in her yard and wouldn't leave so *then* she called the cops.

Vic 3 is a librarian and knew him, as he came in often to use computers. They were closing because a storm had knocked out the power and when she went to tell him he poked her in the boob. She asked if he needed anything in case he meant to just get her attention and missed her shoulder, but no... Then something happened the judge wouldn't let her talk about but I think she heard about the other stuff and reported it. She was the happiest when he agreed to treatment.

So... He should be out of jail once the paperwork goes through. Here's hoping he complies with whatever this therapeutic docket dishes out...

So I am on my second gimlet at my fave French restaurant on the Mall...

I had the same kind of problems nine years ago (stenosis, spine protrusions impacting nerves, disc popping out on one side like a chewing gum bubble, another disc gone, etc.) which led to severe pains shooting down both legs on top of the back pain. The surgery completely fixed the leg pains and they haven't come back. The back pain can't be fixed by that surgery but it's eminently liveable with. I have to take an NSAID every day. I think I might have regaled the forum before with my Tramadol horror story. I took it for three weeks only, it stopped working at all after two and I unknowingly became physically dependent on it. I won't dwell, but coming off it was the worst experience of my life. I'm not a doctor and don't issue medical advice. Let's just say that I went back to the doctor who prescribed it for me and gave him a severe bollocking.

Morphine shots HURT but then I didn't, for about 10 hours. Better than the dilaudid. But my stomach had little hot rocks for a while. Home, waking in pain. Not trying to walk yet. Scared of what I'll find.

They prescribed something I can get OTC.

The ER notes keep saying Resting Comfortably. My ass.

They prescribed drugs that cannot be taken together. Great. That was Friday. They referred me to the pain clinic. First, it isn't open weekends, and second, they can't take referrals from an ER. Great.

Another ER trip Saturday because someone called in a welfare check when I hadn't eaten in 30 hours. Different ER, though. Was out in 2 hours, not 13, and someone looked at my MRI itself, not at the results that said there was nothing wrong. The new look also said nothing wrong. Channeling Larry Niven, I cursed the machine for a lying robot.
They gave me percocet and sent me home with a prescription, not with no plan for when it wore off.

Meanwhile I had ordered some legal weed extract goo that comes in a syringe you squeeze measured cc's from. When the nausea from the percocet wore off I had a friend dispense 2 ccs of that into a truffle.

The corner has turned. Pain only bad, not excruciationg, in several horizontal positions. The goo conked me out by 7.30 last night and I woke up at 3 because I had slept, not from pain.
Not trying standing sitting or walking yet.

Today pain clinic opens. I might make it to the 18th for the spine clinic after all.

Yeah, first real sleep all month. I would find a bearable position, sleep for 30-90mn, shift and the pain would wake me back up, repeat till no bearable positions. Then transfer to LR yoga mat, too hard to sleep on. Many small plushies, and a footstool with bigger plushies for my lower legs. With the little ones I can shift my pelvis 1 cm *this* way and with the big ones my left calf 1" *that* way and find relatively pain-free positions for a while, but then the pain starts building up so I move the rabbit or whatever a few mm. This is my day... Shifting plushies, going to pee, lying back down to get the pain back under control, shift some plushies, call someone to bring me things. If I find a pain-free position I can *relax* in rather than holding myself in, I can nap.
And the leg buckles if I do try to walk on it.

Turning into a favorite sleep position and trying to stuff enough pillows between my knees to keep the surgical knee level is impossible, and when I wake it's throbbing. I have to head to the kitchen for the ice packs and wrap my knee and try again to get to sleep. This is a self-inflicted wound, an elective surgery, but it gives a glimmer of a view of what you're describing.

Stand down red alert!

Shot of something-caine and steroids and (once I stopped trying to faint) all I have now is pressure but not pain why didn't they do this on the 4th?

I am to pretend the pressure *is* pain in terms of staying out of positions where I feel it.

I have a Rx for massage but can't start pt or normal life till after I see spine guy the 18th. And I spent 3 days trying to remember the name of the pt guy I saw in the 90's who was also on Steve's softball team, when lo and behold that is who the pain doc referred me to when I asked if I could have massage. I love this town.

So while I am on my couch, at least if I shift position I get wooden-leg rather than agonizing knitting needles. All for it.

Lemme say this about that... If you treat the pressure as pressure, boy does it turn into pain. That was a several-hour, sweaty, dizzy, bad idea, washing face and changing to clean shirt. Not to mention the wated effort for a soaked, once-clean and -refreshing shirt.

But then, slept well, woke in no pain. Stretched! Quelle luxe. Today bowing to pressure, it stays pressure. Will grab a clo (the singular of clothes, per kid) when I next get up, and get into it when I lie back down. No dizziness, at leaat. Vasovagal crap. Haven't had that since 1994.

So a lot less pain while lying down, but very little added ability to do anything else.

I'm on the edge of Sydney CBD, near the Harbour (can't see it tho cos it's surrounded by tall buildings) & it is not raining today! It will later this week.

I'm also on top of a hill so don't get flooded, but we do get howling winds coming up the street from the CBD & into our street as they pass 38 story building on each side, most off the rest of our street are 4-storey Deco & 20th century apartment blocks, so we live in a wind tunnel. On some windy rainy days my shopping trolley & I have battled gale force winds & howling rain to get out, & I'm not a wee little thing, unlike my very slender neighbour, dunno how she doesn't get blown over.

Sandra, your tale about battling the winds reminds me of when Hubby & I stupidly decided to go to a hill overlooking the harbour to look at the wreck of the
Pasha Bulker at Nobby's Beach

[Someone has a sense of humour. The title on that page is, "A look back on the Pasha Bulker...ship happens".]

We were battling hard to get up the hill and getting nowhere, just standing still, because the wind was so strong but that happens rarely and not on an everyday shopping trip. LOL

Lying on mat again today. Just because I *could* sit didn't, apparently, mean I *should* ... Ok, lesson learned.

In terms of pain, lying down is best if can locate precise positions, then walking, then sitting, then standing. And I was hoping to bloody *shower* when today's visitor was here, as yesterday was better. Merde. Maybe I can pace vaguely.

But it used to be lying precisely vs. absolute yowie, so, yeah.

In terms of precision, I still shift my left femur (angle from all three planes, plus rotation, plus occasional leverage by weight on knee with fulcrum under femur) and pelvis by judicious plushy placement. But today I no longer *also* need to guard the injection site, so again, yeah.

All right. I'll take the bait. What is plushybana?

I was sending you good thoughts for when you had to lie still in the CT scanner because you have said that finding a pain-free position has been difficult and the medical staff would be telling you to be in a specific position and not move. I hadn't been thinking about actually walking to and from the CT, etc.

I'm glad it went well and I suspect there will be a delay in finding out the results/diagnosis and then the treatment plan, I also suspect that you are not out of the woods yet, but maybe you can see the light through the trees, I hope.

I have a useful contraption known as a mini exercise bike or similar names. It's under my computer desk and I use the pedals, sometimes without consciously being aware of it, just forward and back and sometimes a gentle run of spins. The prices range from ok to ridiculous but mine is fairly cheap.

One disadvantage is its weight so you might need someone to place it in the position you want or look at the lighter weight models.

I'm sorry to hear that, Mrrzy.

Over 10 years ago, my Hubby was going through the long process associated with medical tests for cancer, diagnosis, treatment planning, waiting for treatment and follow-ups e.g. weeks of radiotherapy, post-treatment prognosis and then waiting for the final all-clear (which technically he still hasn't had). One of his friends who had been through the whole process for a different sort of cancer gave him some useful advice.

He said that it is a waiting game. You wait for each step in the process, then wait for the next step and the next step, and it's best to just settle in for the long haul and try not to stress about how long it all takes.

Which doesn't help, I know, when you are in excruciating pain but the medical industry works at its own pace, unfortunately.

Are you going to reveal what a plushybani is, or is it a secret mystery, not for the uninitiated? :-)

I use Slippery Elm Bark powder - not often, only when I need it, but it works for me. It was recommended to me by a natural therapy professional about 40 years ago.

Caution, if I mix hot water with the powder I always put a heaped teaspoon of powder in a cup, then 1/3 cup boiling water, quickly mix it up and immediately put stir in 1/3 cup of cold water. If you try to drink it with boiling water you could burn your mouth because it retains the heat too well.

It has little to no taste, but lemon juice or honey could be added. I only make 2/3 cup because I don't mind the taste, but you could make it a bit more watery.

Maybe my stomach is rebelling against me being horizontal for a month. All them juices pooling in the wrong place.

Cutting out the paracetamol. Reducing naproxen from max to recommended. That has me taking about 15% of prior analgesia.

Leaves all the thorns on the knitting needles. And my stomach hasn't stopped hurting yet.

Thanks for being my support group, by the way. Thank you *very* much.

Painkillers can play havoc with the gut. Following the knee replacement I got off of oxycodone after 3 weeks, Flexaril after 3 1/2, and Celebrex after a month. It still took another couple of weeks to begin to feel "normal." Prune juice helps (but don't overdo! 1/2 cup twice a day at the most.) Get plenty of fiber in your food (fruit, leafy greens, beans, etc. Steamed spinach is my friend.)

Good luck with all of that, juggling the pain and the normal stuff.

Hi Mrrzy,

With doctors it's kill or cure, you know. LOL

With every new reaction to a drug they recommend an added drug treatment which then creates a different reaction so we end up on a cocktail of drugs with a combination of reactions to each one, or worse still, drug interactions.

If there is any similarity between knees and that surgery you mention, it may be the use of a disk between the bone ends. In the knee it is inserted between replaced titanium bone ends. Makes getting around much easier.

I hope you get an answer to this soon!

PT guy also reports both sacroiliac joints frozen, and sacrum stuck at improper tilt. Not helping L5S1 at all. Also apparently my brain is not talking to my ass: I am incapable (on both sides) of getting my glutes to contract. If I try, lots of other muscles move, and my glutes just ignore me.

And snicker. I am reminded of a line, pun intended, from a song about how to make bouillabaisse, starting with getting the fish:

Des courageux prennent leur canne
Et vont eux-même le pêcher
Mais le poisson passe et ricane
Y'a plus qu'à l'acheter au marché!

My SI joints are moving slightly, I have a new exercise for my butt that is working my glutes, I sat long enough to play Yahtzee!

First shampoo since JUNE! [I haz vurry long hair and a shower.]

Tomorrow I meet with the other surgeon of no Frankensten-esque bolts technique. I will then be able to decide whither this saga is heading...

Physical Therapy.

I always bring a towel.

My shrink gave me a huge slew of data questions to ask so decisions have finally been able to be made.

Yes, surgery, this year.

No, not UVa, their care sucks. Last illustration: I tell both surgeons that PT says my sacrum is misaligned. Ask if it can be seen on scans. UVa doc looks at profile scan, says no. Other doc looks at profile scan, says Um, *rotates view to back* and says Oh, so it is.

So PT through Sept, then more tests to verify what damage there is, then fuse L5S1 and replace L4L5. Anterior sirgery only. No bone graft, no bolts outside the spine.

Whew. Feels way better to know what is coming.

They squirt stuff into each disk till it hurts and you tell'm if it is the pain they're trying to fix or not. This identifies/confirms the levels that need surgery. They then watch the disks leak to see what shape they're all in and also helps confirm whether / where surgery.

It is Weds next! Yikes!

OK, got it! :-)

As an ex-librarian, my thoughts automatically turned to providing a list of audio files to listen to while undergoing a medical procedure like a CT scan. When I had an MRI I was told that I could bring in a CD of my favourite music which the staff could play to make me feel more relaxed during the procedure.

As it happens, I brought the CD in but chose not to use it and the "music" of the MRI was interesting to me anyway, like a free-form, rhythmic electronic jazz.

Ok, well, *that* was no fun. Turns out keto interferes with anesthesia, which I only found out trying to figure out why IV benzoes were so. Not. Calming.

Plus I flunked. They can't replace the disk above L5, they have to fuse both above and below. Too degraded.

So 2 surgeries: Monday 24th 2 fusions, L4L5 and L5S1, from the front. Weds 26th 2nd op to add the stabilizing Frankensteinesque rods and screws in the back.

So Thurs next I go to DC, Friday preop stuff, Mon-Fri in hosp in Reston (any NoVA cattters?), then I hope rehab for a bit.

Preop stuff includes some fun things like talking to anesthesia and nutrition (it is going to be *really* hard to be keto on their menu but otherwise I will lose my temper with the nurses and then try to die with all that available medical stuff).

Woot! End in sight!

Hi Mrrzy,

I have been wondering and hoping on how you are going.

So, like a person with one hand in a bucket of boiling water, and the other in a bucket of ice, on average you are feeling ok? :-)

I think that if you look really, really hard you might see a bit of light at the end of the tunnel, and everything will start progressing. There probably will be a lot of obstacles but they should get smaller and smaller over time. The good thing is that you have had the surgery now - but it is still a waiting game until you feel back to some sort of normal health.

One day, hopefully soon-ish, you will stop and think, "I'm not in pain!" but that day will probably creep up on you because you will get better and better, bit by bit, day by day.

I can't say I'm rooting for you, because that means something totally different here in Oz. But you could tell those fuckers you are rooting for them. LOL

Well, was. Ain't pooped since. No urge to poop. Trying to get them to pay attention here but I keep just getting stool softeners and laxatives and I. Am. Not. Pooping. Or. Even. Farting. Much.

Hi Mrrzy,

I'm hoping you will get some relief soon.

My go-to remedy is psyllium (i.e. the beneficial ingredient in Metamucil without all the unnecessary extra added ingredients) made from the seed husks of the plantain plant, which grows as a weed around here on the footpaths etc. But, recently I found psyllium husk powder in the health food aisle of the supermarket and it works like a charm. It's not a grain. It's pure fibre.

Warning: Too much would definitely be too much of a good thing!

I use a heaped teaspoon in my fruit and fibre shake which I have three times a week. I use the blender to moosh it all together into a yummy drink. (I like milk, but any liquid would do, but I wouldn't recommend alcohol, sorry! :-D I know you would like something to calm you down a bit, but....)

It usually takes about a day for the first dose to have effect so give it time to work its magic.

Perhaps the bran would be an exception to the keto rule - it really does work. Too well if you overdo. Your concern is something they need to pay attention to, and it is a serious issue. Stay hydrated.

We haughty Brits have a much fancier name for Psyllium: it's called ispaghula here but is the same thing. It's typically sold in single-dose sachets (the big brand is Fybogel), flavoured with orange or something like that. The instructions tell you that it should be stirred into a bit of water and drunk immediately at the same time as food. I can attest to the fact that if you don't glug it straight away you'll have the devil of a job washing the mucilaginous dregs out of your glass. In water, the psyllium/ispaghula husk forms a thickening gloop that is high in soluble fibre, which helps to soften stools and makes it easier to eliminate them. It's good stuff, but, like everything, it may not be for everyone, so listen to the Mrrzy doc rather than the Mudcat doc.

Psyllium is what doctors here all seem to recommend; I see the stir into water kind (Metamucil) but just go with the gelatin capsules. Easier and I don't have to deal with whatever flavor they've assigned, or, as Steve says, deal with the glop. I wonder if okra has a similar effect? Get the pods cut up in water and you have to bread and fry them quickly or it turns into a gelatinous form.

Some fruits and vegetables are more effective as fiber than others. Citrus fruit for me - particularly grapefruit - scours on the way through.

Here's hoping that everything comes out ok.

As I said before, the psyllium powder without all the extra added ingredients does it for me and it's cheaper than the alternatives - cheaper even than the psyllium husks at the supermarket.

I use one heaped teaspoon three times per week in my fruit shakes and it works like a charm.

This page says that the powder is more concentrated than the husks so you need to take less of it:

Psyllium Husks vs. Psyllium Powder

I buy powder - or husks - in a packet, not capsules because capsules are a more expensive way to pay for it.

I just looked up the supermarket prices for psyllium husk vs psyllium powder. Husk is $2.82 per 100G and powder is $1.78 per 100G which is odd to me because the powder is more effective compared with the husk, and the capsules are on special at $33 (normally $39) for 160 caps, which is a miniscule amount compared with a heaped teaspoon from a packet of powder.

Blending powder or husk into a shake makes it a lot easier to drink, rather than just mixing it into a cup of liquid of your choice because it just becomes part of the drink. I don't even notice it. I made the terrible mistake of trying to take it in a cup of water and it glugged up in seconds, and no matter how many times I refilled the cup and mixed it up it still wasn't going down without a fight.

When taking psyllium powder as a laxative, it’s important to mix it with plenty of water, as taking it alone can be a choking hazard. However, when combined with other ingredients and baked into low-carb recipes, psyllium doesn’t pose this risk.

As stated earlier, please take your advice from medical and/or nutritional experts rather than Mudcat.

My ex can't eat grapefruit, and avoids the flavor in drinks, etc., because of a drug interaction on the list for something he takes twice a day.

Looking on Amazon I found bulk Psyllium Husk, but I buy it in small gelatin capsules. The prices have gone up drastically lately and I just looked at the most recently purchased bottle - there is a lack of information about the actual volume of psyllium in the dose of 5 capsules. Looking at the name-brand products offered at Costco (bulk purchasing) the product with sugar and flavor adds up to 90 calories, and the non-sugar one uses Nutrasweet (Aspartame) that I'm allergic to (causes diarrhea). I imagine using unflavored bulk psyllium in a smoothie would be good (I add gelatin for the nail-strengthening properties) but I don't have a smoothie every day. The prospect of a chronic problem with sticky drinking glasses doesn't appeal, but lowering the price per dose does. I will look into it.

Spinoff of Mrrzy's interesting times is that the rest of us can reexamine how we are going about self-care.

When grapefruit juice is bottled it is often mixed with sulfites which do preserve the juice but not the people who drink it. The acid can also negate the time-release factors of medication and the effectiveness of statins.

Well I've been piqued by this discussion into looking into psyllium/ispaghula (same thing) a bit more, and, blow me down, you CAN buy all sorts of formulations this end, from powder to tablets to ground husk, from loose powder to the sachets of Fybogel I've mentioned. Every brand I've looked at so far carries warnings about the need mix it with water. I bought a box of 30 of those sachets about 15 months ago (we had a particular medical reason at that time which I won't divulge but which has long passed), and there are still 25 sachets in the box. It's that good.

It does seem from reports that the husk is better than the seed. I wouldn't know, because I've only just found out that you can get either. I can't think that anyone would ignore the advice on the packs to take the stuff with water. You'd hardly be able to, even with the most dedicated attempts.

I have a smoothie three mornings a week and I have found it an easy habit to maintain.

Psyllium powder swells up dramatically into a gluggy lump which would be impossible to swallow without causing harm. I was in a hurry one day and decided to try mixing psyllium powder in about half a cup of water (which is approximately 125 ml of water) and I had to keep adding more water, more water and it took a good few minutes to finally finish the dose. It was unpleasant as well as annoying to have to deal with the residue in the cup. Never again.

I use at least 400 ml of liquid plus the fruit I add to blend into a smoothie.

If it is not possible to make a blended smoothie, it would probably work to put at least a cup and a half of liquid in a shaker to mix it all together. If it was me I'd use milk and probably add some chocolate powder or another healthy flavouring (I'd choose low or no sugar) to make it interesting in place of blending the fruit.

To repeat one of my previous posts, I use a heaped teaspoon of psyllium powder i.e. about 5g and no more. (I just looked it up and capsules have about a tenth of that amount, so very expensive.) Too much is not pleasant - either the process of taking it or the resulting too-efficient effect. A healthy balance is good, more than a heaped teaspoon is definitely not better in my experience.

Might that be from you lying down so much recently? We read once that the spine gets slightly shorter during the day, as it's compressed by the load of the upper body, and expands again overnight when the strain's off. We tried it with my brother, and found he was a quarter of an inch taller in the morning than he had been the previous night.

Conversely, we found that my grandmother shrank with age. It's something to do with the body failing to stop itself recycling calcium from the bones.

A "sugar-laden fiber laxative thing"? No!! Why does sugar have to be added to everything, even a laxative?

And chocolate covered brussel sprouts? No, again!! Is that a prank?

That reminds me of a prank an ex-friend's mostly-unfunny mother played on some of her friends at the dance group she attended. She made the Oz classic sweet treat
Lamingtons but she cut up a piece of yellow cleaning sponge - new, not used - and coated the cubes in chocolate icing and then coconut and pi$$ed herself laughing, watching people trying to bite into the sponge while she asked them whether they liked her home cooked treats. They were too polite to tell her that they couldn't eat it and threw it away when they thought she wasn't looking.

I don't mind brussel sprouts as long as they are not overcooked and soggy. I've seen a recipe for char grilled, pre-blanched bs's. I haven't tried it but it looks good. I'm a fan of steaming veges in the microwave - highest temperature for a couple of minutes. Especially yummy for broccoli.

Should have been clearer: balls of milk chocolate*, about 6mm across, covered with green silver paper, and labelled "chocolate brussel sprouts". No green vegetables were harmed in their production. We await confirmation that Grandsprog gets the joke.

Yes, but it would be funny!

My Hubby cuts off the stalk end of the broccoli and chucks it in the compost. If I get to it first, I cut it up fine and steam it and put it into stew, soup or omelettes etc.

He also throws out the brown onion skins, even though he knows I'm collecting them to - one of these days - dye some natural wool. I keep having to fish the onion skins out of the compost bucket and tuck it away somewhere safe. I did buy the natural wool at the start of the first COVID lockdown but then got sidetracked.

Also, I remember reading somewhere a long time ago that children grow into liking the taste of some vegetables as their metabolism develops.

This is a recent study which says something different:

Researchers find why kids hate broccoli

but what I remember is that as a child matures there is a change which leads to tolerating or even liking veges of the brassica family.

My Hubby attempts unsuccessfully to (what he calls) "steam" broccoli in the microwave using half power and not full power for maybe 10 minutes, not just a couple of minutes. I ask him what the definition of steam is, i.e. heating water to a temperature which converts it from a liquid to a vapour. Half power just does this half-ass attempt which creates a pale-beige-green coloured inedible yukky-ness, but full power for a couple of minutes creates beautiful, vibrant green yummy-ness.

I never even saw broccoli until I was an adult so I don't know whether I would have hated it as a child. I remember hating soggy over-cooked cabbage, but when I had coleslaw later in life I loved it.

I have a lovely two-tier steamer that someone gave me. There was a time when I steamed all vegetables. No longer. The only veg I steam now is chopped cabbage, which stops it from getting waterlogged. Carrots, peas, beans, sprouts, all boiled in slightly salted water. I have been known to roast carrots (and cauliflower). Cauliflower, tenderstem, purple sprouting and the like, I stand them up carefully in the pan with their stalky bits in the water and their tops above, lid on. The tops need less cooking than the stalks, so steaming, which cooks all the bits the same, just seems wrong to me. As for that sort of broccoli we call calabrese, I wouldn't know. We don't give that most boring of veg house room. Each to his own I suppose. The steamer does come in handy for the steaming of Mrs Steve's superb Christmas puddings, which have invariably been stored for a year.

I have a couple of steel steamer baskets that rest in pans with good lids. 3/4 inch of water and a few minutes on high and I have steamed broccoli, cauliflower (darn, I forgot I was going to have asparagus with dinner tonight - that's one of the few I boil for a few minutes). Carrots, squash, lots of things, though I don't steam them all for me. My dogs get dry food but in the evening I add fresh vegetables, often times cooked. They like veggies raw but love them cooked - then they're "people food" and they show by their interest that this is their favorite. Cooking also means they won't choke on chunks of carrots.

The reason I gave up on steaming for most veg was that I had the distinct feeling that boiling just cooks things better. I get that some nutrients will end up in the water, but, when I look at steaming water after cooking, there's plenty of stuff in there that came out of the veg anyway. I'll look up comparisons if there are any. I'd likely think again if I thought that Mrs Steve and I were in danger of going short of vitamins and minerals, but I don't think that's the case in view of our varied diet. We both eat at least some raw citrus fruit every day, tomatoes play a big part in our diet and we eat green veg until it's coming out of our ears. My childhood abhorrence of greens, triggered by overboiled, dark green school cabbage, has long since evaporated.

Certain prescriptive Italian cooks have been known to declare that to leave the kitchen whilst the pasta is boiling is a mortal sin. I feel the same about boiling sprouts, tenderstem or cauliflower, which are all very unforgiving. I'm an obsessive checker for doneness. The only other thing I'd say is that the best way of putting someone off Brussels sprouts for life (apart from overcooking them) is to cook loose, leafy ones, or frozen ones. For me, they must start off like rock-hard, tight little balls.

It seems that Vitamin C and folic acid suffer the most from boiling rather than steaming. Boiling veg might lose you a quarter of vitamin C and about a third of folic acid, though steaming does lose some of each too, but not as much. Folic acid is one of those that it can be tricky to get enough of if you don't eat your greens, but I wouldn't be worrying too much about Vitamin C. Thing is, whether you steam or boil, you're still eating veg, which can't be bad.

You don't have to steam with a steamer. I do one lidded pan cooking because I only have a single electric cooking ring. I put meat in first with a little oil long enough to colour both sides, add a small amount of water, 1/8th to 1/4 of an inch, then add vegetables on top.

Work out when to put vegetables in by how long you want to cook them. I do slow, low heat, cooking and I like vegetables like carrots and swede in large chunks. So they go in first after the meat. Mushrooms take a lot less time and things like petit pois just need warming up.

I check during advert breaks to make sure the water hasn't boiled away and at the end the little bit of water that is left tastes amazing. Nothing gets thrown away.

Mrrzy is not enjoying much.

Rehab upped the laxatives till horrible unproductive stomach cramps I put up with for 4 hours [4-8am Tues night/Weds am] hoping they would *become* productive made them call 911. Ambulance, ER. Tranquilizer, pain shot in IV, CT, ultrasound, oh there seems to be some mass in your lower abdomen, follow up with oncology. Yup, looked like cancer.

I was tranquil.

Another impressively productive enema took care of the rest of the pain, can leave ER. Still tranquul.

Oh by the way, then says the ER, rehab has discharged you to home.

I am immediately no longer tranquil. All my stuff is at the nursing home and am not well enough to be gome.

Now the lucky part: one sis had been blowing through town heading for family thanksgiving, to drop off pie, so I had called a fiend to take custardy of said pie. Friend was thus able to drive me to fetch my stuff and then home.

It was so good to be home.

My own groceries my own cooking my own delivery places.

People came and were helpful (cannot turn on shower, contrils too low, for example), have a great rocking chair, nice to just be me in my house.

That lasted a day. Home Weds pm. By Thurs pm abdo pain has me calling people for advice. Friend moved a TV (for me) and chair (for visitor) into bedroom. Friday morning the advice was Call another ambulance. Back to ER.

By now I am convinced it cant bw cancer. It has got to be something from the surgery. And indeed, an MRI confirms fluid not a mass. Great. So they

Surprise! Did nothing. Sent me home again to pain and pooplessness.

I have appointments with my GP (Mon) and the conplicated abdo filks Tuesday. By which time I won't have pooped for another week.

I am not tranquil. I wept and wailed and hollered at people in the ER for not being able to TREAT me but it was the ER, and I was not in *deathly* danger.

I gotta ask if I were in the UK or Canada or France or anywhere civilized if there would be these kinds of runarounds.

I also should be being a lot mire rigorous in keeping keto. Moid needs stabilizing...

Mrrzy,

I watch the real-life emergency medical shows on TV, from Oz and UK, but usually there are a few different people's stories packed into one episode. Your story has enough twists and turns to be one show on its own! And here was I thinking you were having a well-earned rest because the drama was over.

I'm so happy that cancer hasn't reared its ugly head. That would be just too much.

And no, the emergency departments and hospitals are overstretched everywhere so I doubt whether there would have been less runarounds elsewhere.

Am I allowed to mention the p-word again? (Psyllium) :-)

As I said earlier, with the problem diagnosed that is half the battle. Now to get on with the treatment and recovery - which may not be pleasant, but the light might possibly be visible on the horizon. (I was going to say "at the end of the tunnel" but it seemed a bit too *relevant* to your condition. LOL)

Ah well, Ar Hyd y Nos lyrics should soothe you in tranquillity or in distress.

There are variations on the English lyrics, depending on the translations or the intentions of the person presenting the song but all of the lyrics and the melody are beautiful, and also for me, the connection to my Welsh-born Grandmother, so my Welsh ancestry blessing on you Mrrzy.

The question needing an answer is why is there a blockage or what is hanging up that waste isn't passing? The medical folks aren't interested in answering that question?

No hints, tips or advice from me. That a job for the medics. I do wonder how one can get fibre with a non-carbohydrate diet...

I suppose non-carb just means no bulky starchy stuff or explicit sugar. Things like spuds, rice, bread, pasta. I mean, even broccoli contains starches, sugars and cellulose...all carbs...?

All my fiber comes from vegetables. No grains no legumes.

Corner turned overnight. Sat Sun got worse and worse but this morning woke up in *much* less pain...

And pooped a real whole day's worth!

Saw my regular doc.

Came home and pooped another whole day's worth! I figure at this rate I'll be caught up to last Weds by bedtime.

Tomorrow I see the abdo onco people. I hope they can drain the fluid.

Whew.

A friend of mine needed surgery and ended up,
not with excess fluid, but with something called
"free air." Excess air inside the body post-surgery.
He assures me it is very painful. Made it hard to breathe in his case.

Hoping the abdomen specialists get that fluid drained and clear up your troubles.
At least you are home now. Something to be thankful for!
Hang in there, we are cheering you on.

Aah! The old medical professionals' runaround trick! Good exercise, all that running back and forth from one medical office to the next, eh? :-(

Mrrzy: has (as I suspect) the vascular guy completed the circle and told you to go to the abdo guy? In our family, this is called "being given the Magic Roundabout treatment", esp when endless muzak is involved.
