Subject: RE: BS: OK, now please help name MY puppy! From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 28 Apr 12 - 02:33 PM Thanks, all! After a few false starts (Sadie? Luna?) she informed us that her name is Posie! She answers to it consistently! And after her first vet visit, we have an idea that she will not be the slender, 40-lb delicate damsel that her sister is... she's got sturdier bones and much larger paws... uh oh! Vet thinks that among other things there's some Shar pei mixed in with the potcakiness. She is sweet, affectionate, smart, funny, cuddly, adorable.... and she's stolen all our hearts! Nellie can't get enough of her, and we are all so glad she came to join the family! |
Subject: RE: BS: OK, now please help name MY puppy! From: frogprince Date: 22 Apr 12 - 05:14 PM Allison, were all the pictures of that pooch sent to you online? I hope this doesn't turn out to be a major dissapointment for you! If you've heard any of the stories that I've heard about the comparison between dating site pictures, and what turned up in person...I hope this isn't like the old dog story, "Before we cut off his tail and painted him yellow, he was an alligator". |

Subject: RE: BS: OK, now please help name MY puppy! From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 19 Apr 12 - 02:21 PM Yes, she's a girl-child-puppy-dog. What are some other names for seals? We keep looking at her eyes... Yes, intelligent and such an old soul! Am I smitten? Nope, not me! Sure, banjo man, you can use the picture; pm me for some more recent photos of utter cuteness. On the current foster mama's FB page there are also many photos that make me shake my head and sigh... She has been playing "dress-up" with my baby aho has been photographed in a butterfly costume, a sailor dickey, and a rhinestone collar. How are we gonna keep her down on the farm? We are simple, humble folk here. We meet her in 3 days! Stay tuned for more photos and (we hope) a final decision on the name! You have (mostly) all been very helpful! |

Subject: RE: BS: OK, now please help name MY puppy! From: Bert Date: 19 Apr 12 - 08:01 AM 999, we had a dog called Dammit once. A little neighbor girl said to us "I am not allowed to say that" so we said, "You can call him Darnit" |
Subject: RE: BS: OK, now please help name MY puppy! From: banjoman Date: 19 Apr 12 - 06:03 AM Great little dog - can I have your OK to use the picture as my computer wallpaper? |
Subject: RE: BS: OK, now please help name MY puppy! From: GUEST,999 Date: 19 Apr 12 - 12:02 AM OK, Allison, this is my last suggestion. Dammit. Think of the ease when training the pooch: Sit, Dammit; roll over, Dammit. Dammit, come here. Dammit, put your back legs on the paper, not just the front. Hey, it's a natural. Regardless what the dog's name ends up being, that is one cute AND intelligent dog. Just plain looks smart. He(?) will be your worst nightmare unless you give his brain lots of things to ponder and work out. |
Subject: RE: BS: OK, now please help name MY puppy! From: banjoman Date: 18 Apr 12 - 05:31 AM Once had a rabbit called Throat Ripper. The vet refused to treat it until we changed his name. He became Wesley and that would be a good name for a little dog as well. Named after a character from Star Trek. |

Subject: RE: BS: OK, now please help name MY puppy! From: katlaughing Date: 17 Apr 12 - 11:45 PM My friend had a yellow dog once whose name was Strider/Stryder. He was a really neat dog. She'd tell him to "sack-out" and he'd flop down and lie on his side right where he was. What about Cecile or Cecilia? CC i.e. SeeSee? Easy to say. There are some women of reggae names HERE some of which are kind of interesting, imo. |
Subject: RE: BS: OK, now please help name MY puppy! From: GUEST,Guest from Sanity Date: 17 Apr 12 - 09:27 PM When we were 'young-ins' and hitting THAT age, we took in a stray...named it 'Stain'...and chuckle when my Mom, or others were calling it. At the time, it was hilarious. GfS |
Subject: RE: BS: OK, now please help name MY puppy! From: Richard Bridge Date: 17 Apr 12 - 05:43 PM I don't see what's wrong with "Bonita". We rescued a cross-breed called "Benji" which was much to close to our existing "Bonnie" (the small Dane) so we named him "Benjamin" and it worked just fine. But if you MUST - "Yellow" after Yellowman the reggae singer. It falls to the end of the name while Nellie rises so there should be no confusion. |
Subject: RE: BS: OK, now please help name MY puppy! From: Jack the Sailor Date: 17 Apr 12 - 03:51 PM Potty. Think of it as a conversation starter! when people look at you funny you can explain where her breed comes from. Also You can giggle every time you say "Here potty!" or even better when you say "Go Potty! Go Potty! Go get the ball!" |
Subject: RE: BS: OK, now please help name MY puppy! From: GUEST,ClaudeTheDog Date: 17 Apr 12 - 12:21 PM My wonderful dog's name is Bernice; we both like it and it seems to amuse the passersby she charms on her walks. She would be honored to share the name with your new pup if it suits. |

I just know I'm going to melt right into them! They remind me of seal eyes, so I suggested Selkie, but Hunt will have none of it! Pretty sure we'll have to wait till we meet her, and perhaps she'll tell us her name! Meanwhile, I'm loving the ideas and anecdotes! |

Subject: RE: BS: OK, now please help name MY puppy! From: katlaughing Date: 15 Apr 12 - 10:53 PM Luna is a kewl name, Allison, and works well. She knows she's in real trouble if I call her StellaLuna, though, unless I sing it to her to the tune from the movie Thomasina (with varied made-up lyrics): StellaLuna, she of the amber eyes StellaLuna, she has a wiggly butt Such a pretty little grrrlll, Such a darling sweet young thing StellaLuna, don't ever go away. LOL I LOVE "Teapot!" And, you could spell it T-Pot! |

Subject: RE: BS: OK, now please help name MY puppy! From: gnu Date: 15 Apr 12 - 07:12 PM 999.... Claret? I always was partial to one syllable names. Like "Dawg." That's what an old hand at dog breeding told me... one syllable. Odd... just this eve a neighbour with a new dog (9 weeks?) passed while I was on my evening walk. She let the small dog come toward me on the leash and it wanted to jump on me. I said "NO!" to the dog and she reined it in. She said, "Oh. He can't hurt you." I said that no dog should be allowed to jump up and that I could train the dog not to do so in less than an hour if she wanted me to do so. She went on and on about how good the pup was and how she knew how to train a dog. I said, well, that's a good thing because now you can train it not to jump up on people. Next time we meet, I look forward to making friends with your dog but if it jumps up on me I'll slap it. She was not impressed. Then again, she's not much smarter than the dog. I find it odd that SO many people have NO idea how to train a dog but THINK that they know how to do it. I think it is worthy of considerstion that anyone who wants to get a dog should have to take a course on training and caring for a dog. No need for any fees... I am sure the likes of the SPCA could find volunteers to provide this service... a service for the dogs. |

Subject: RE: BS: OK, now please help name MY puppy! From: katlaughing Date: 15 Apr 12 - 06:45 PM They are both adorable and your daughter beautiful, 2Ls! Thanks for the link about Potcakes. I was going to say Sweet Cakes or Baby Cakes, etc. in connection with Potcake, but that's just for fun. I have a Puerto Rican friend whose name is Abdulia, which she hates, but her nickname is Juji (jew-gee) which I've always liked. Might be too close to Nellie, though. Have fun! |
