Subject: RE: Songs of the Hebrides available on line From: Gutcher Date: 02 Apr 13 - 08:38 PM Guest @ 6-50pm. You have a lot to answer for. Your link for Ishbel MacAskill has led me to other favourite gaelic songs including the gaelic gospel song "Sios Dhan An Abhainn" sung by Mary Ann Kennedy & Na Seoid. I may make it to bed by sunrise. |

Subject: RE: Songs of the Hebrides available on line From: GUEST,gutcher Date: 19 Apr 12 - 02:35 AM As recordings of Ishbel MacAskill singing The Eriskay Love Lilt seem to be as scarce as hens teeth, I have emailed the source where I purchased the original tape and now await an answer. Who knows such a remote outlet may still have [very] old stock. |
Subject: RE: Songs of the Hebrides available on line From: Stilly River Sage Date: 17 Apr 12 - 05:13 PM This seems to be a poorly formed URL or the site is down. I can't reach it from here for now. I searched on the link and found http://edinburgh.academia.edu/PerGLAhlander/Websites with more links. SRS |

Subject: RE: Songs of the Hebrides available on line From: GUEST,gutcher Date: 17 Apr 12 - 04:47 PM Sorry post five was I. As my tape containing the E.L.L. wore out years ago has anyone been able to come up with a currently available recording of Ishbel singing this one? |
Subject: RE: Songs of the Hebrides available on line From: GUEST,999 Date: 17 Apr 12 - 02:30 PM Check Youtube. Celtic Connections did a tribute to her (Ishbel) and it has footage of her in in it. She had a voice and a half. WOW! Go to Youtube and search Celtic Connections: Ishbel MacAskill Tribute |

Subject: RE: Songs of the Hebrides available on line From: GUEST Date: 17 Apr 12 - 08:15 AM As an antidote to M.K.Fs cloying Edwardian drawing room pieces seek out a recording of the late Ishbel MacAskill singing "The Eriskay Lovelilt" in Gaelic to the traditional tune. Sorry I cannot say where you will find it as the tape of The Lochinver Ceilidh Band on which I had it was probably recorded about forty years ago. |
Subject: RE: Songs of the Hebrides available on line From: doc.tom Date: 17 Apr 12 - 05:38 AM Me too! Thanks for the tip-off. |
Subject: RE: Songs of the Hebrides available on line From: Charmion Date: 16 Apr 12 - 11:57 AM I, too, have nabbed it. I can see myself, aged 15 or so, on the bus going to my singing lesson with my mother's precious, fragile copy of Volume III wrapped in dry-cleaner's plastic to protect it from the slings and arrows of winter weather in Ottawa. If I had let it get wet, she would probably have left my bones for the crows to pick. |
Subject: RE: Songs of the Hebrides available on line From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 15 Apr 12 - 07:57 PM Duly nabbed - thanks so much! |
