The Showcase Concert at Yorkshire's Regional Day was a sell out.

The next Folk21 event is The National Fundraiser at Newhampton Arts Centre, Wolverhampton with six well known and well respected acts -

starting at 5.30pm Pete Coe, Anne Lister, Keith Kendrick and Sylvia Needham, then after the break, George Papavgeris, Wendy Arrowsmith, The John Richards Band.

All that great music for £10. Details at the
Newhampton Arts Centre Website and the Folk 21 website .

I'm very pleased for them, but I prefer to hear musicianship rather than self penned ramblings

That's a somewhat misleading comment Mandoman -

Are you suggesting that none of them perform trad material? I'll think you'll find Keith & Sylvia perform a lot of trad, as does Pete Coe, as does Wendy Arrowsmith.

Or are you suggesting they can't play........ which again isn't strictly true is it? Pete Coe even manages to step dance while he's playing.

Or are you just really saying it's not to your taste?

I'm suggesting their playing lacks inspiration, which for me is everything

Well, Mandoman, we'll try to put up with your absence. Nice of you to come up with such an extraordinary condemnation of all of our music - I have never been accused of a lack of inspiration or musicianship before, but I'll take it on board and if our paths ever cross (which sounds unlikely) I'll be intrigued to hear whose music you DO rate. As the entire event is a fund raiser and none of us are getting paid for it, and as we're fund raising to try to get the folk music club scene healthier and more thriving, it's good to know there are critics like you around to bring us all down to earth with a bump.   I'll rate your own commitment by the fact that you can't be bothered to join Mudcat or use your real name. Thank you for sharing.

Now - who IS going to come? Because it's going to be a cracking night, with some brilliant songs (not just mine), some first rate singers and musicians and quite a lot of humour, too.

I am not doubting the sincerity of the singers or their songs, I am merely making the observation that in my opinion their playing leaves alittle bit to be desired. As a serious player myself I want to see artists from who I can learn. It is not my intention to upset anyone, and if it does then I apologise, but too many Folk people concentrate on their songs at the expense of their playing.

Hey Mandoman, why not tell us who you are?

We could then consider you for any future fundraisers - if you're up for it and could find a way to be positive about others on the bill.

We are always looking for the support of "serious players".

You can contact me at kffc@live.co.uk.
