I've just posted a new recording at Banjo Hangout. Here's a quick listen to the song.

I've been lucky enough, over the last few years to do some work with film and TV projects. A couple of years ago I was on a film set for several hours one morning in a beautiful little Louisiana town, and had a lot of time to just sit there and play - so I developed this tune, as I considered the story of the movie that was being a filmed (a young soldier's adventures walking back to his home town after the US Civil War). Eventually, I put lyrics to it and EVEN AS I RAMBLE came into its own.

Great song. Is that the same banjo tune that you were playing as The Bells of Centenary a while back, or is my memory playing tricks on me?

Yes.

I dropped that name as I developed the lyrics in a different direction ... AND because I started singing Brian MCNeill's song Belles of Ontario ... yes, they're different bells but the names were too close.

Thanks, I thought the tune sounded familiar. I see how Bells/Belles song titles might cause confusion; I was wondering whether to type Bells or Belles of Centenary when I asked the question.

Belles of Ontario is another great song.

The film set was at the site of the original Centenary College, close to where the Chapel used to be. I was imagining that if one was walking toward the Chapel from a distance, one could hear the bells of the Chapel before they could be seen. Hence the name, but as I said, I took the song in a different direction.
