Subject: RE: Help needed for Rosalie Sorrels From: GUEST,Gerry Date: 11 Apr 17 - 11:07 PM I see a post at https://www.facebook.com/RosalieSorrelsFanPage/ from Shelley, Holly and Kevin (her children?) dated 28 February saying (among other things) "Recently we have learned that she now has a cancerous mass in her colon." The most recent thing I see there is a reply from a fan, dated 27 March. |

Subject: RE: Help needed for Rosalie Sorrels From: Stilly River Sage Date: 23 Apr 12 - 10:24 AM Let's add some content and context: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosalie_Sorrels Rosalie Sorrels (born 1933) is an American folk singer-songwriter who resides in the mountains near Boise, Idaho. She began her public career as a singer and collector of traditional folksongs in the late 1950s. During the early 1960s she left her husband and began traveling and performing at music festivals and clubs throughout the United States. She and her five children traveled across the country as she worked to support her family and establish herself as a performer. Along the way she made many lifelong friends among the folk and beat scene. Her career of social activism, storytelling, teaching, learning, songwriting, collecting folk songs, performing, and recording has spanned six decades. [There's much more at the link.] Fresh Air remarks (audio not available) American folk singer ROSALIE SORRELS may not be wildly famous but since the 1960s she's developed a near cult like following. Her admirers describe Sorrels as someone who has lived the life she now sings about. In fact, she was immortalized in a song by Nanci Griffith describing Sorrels as "Salt of the earth.....with a voice like wine." .Her newest CD is "Borderline Heart" by Green Linnet Records Inc. The book "Way Out in Idaho" is a collection of her poems, songs and recipes. In 1992, She received the recording industry "Indie" award for Best Storytelling album for her CD "Report From Grimes Creek." Profile: Folk Music Matriarch Rosalie Sorrels on NPR From member station WGBH in Boston, reporter Jill Kaufman profiles folk singer Rosalie Sorrels. Born in Idaho in 1933, she's considered a matriarch of American folk music, and recently the University of California at Santa Cruz dedicated an archive to house her papers, including news clippings about war protests and civil rights marches. Subject: Help needed for Rosalie Sorrels From: Rapparee Date: 20 Apr 12 - 10:46 PM Reprinted from Facebook: Kevin Sorrels once again, so everyone as you can see we have some problems at the cabin. My sisters and I have been trying to make the cabin a place where mom can stay and be happy. I do a lot of the work there and my sister Shelley helps me keep the place in reasonable shape however, the cabin is in sirius disrepair! I'll be working on it all this summer and into fall. My problem is I can't do it all on my own and we don't have enough money to pay people to come do real things like put a new roof on or redo the water filtration system. the water is contaminated and the water filtration system broke down this spring do to the flood. pack rats live in the roof and sometimes get inside. we have live traps but they are slick little dudes. I could go on and on about all the stuff that needs immediate attention. Some people from the occupy Boise came up last fall and rebuilt the bathroom so mom could have a safe shower and a sink that works. the sink has been out for over a year. I just don't know what to do any more. Mom dosn't work anymore and she never made much as it is. A lot of people sent mom money for cabin repair and it really helped we wanna thank everyone so much for that. It helped and we were able to deal with a couple things. I would love to say we were able to fix everything but I can't. Some other people are putting things together for this fall that will raise some money however this summer is the time to get things done and if anyone can help that would really be wonderful. I don't like to ask people for help but things are getting critical. I worry about mom and she has to be at the cabin. it's her home not just a weekend place to hang out. any way if anyone wants to help out in any way please let me know. My sister Shelley set up a cabin fund and has all that info she's also on facebook. I don't know how all of it works but I'm just letting everyone know where we are at this point. I'm posting some pictures so you can see what were dealing with. Thank you everyone for being on Rosalie's facebook, I am so glad that you all are here writing things and sending pictures and remembering some one who has been important to me. my mom, Rosalie Sorrels or as us kids know her (The Mother!) sincerely Kevin Sorrels If you want, you can send help to: Rosalie Sorrels PO BOX 1204 Boise Idaho 83701 |
