Subject: Wordsworth's The Tables Turned From: mikesamwild Date: 24 Apr 12 - 08:05 AM I read this poem at school in the 5Os but it was only a few years ago when I was in hospital and it was printed in a newspaper, that it struck me that Wordsworth must have had a hunting song in his head( hounds and men on foot fox hunts very common in the Lakes)The 'up up my boys' is a commmon hunting song start. Idon't know his attitude to hunting but as a man of the fells and a prodigious walker he must have been well aware if not involved. I have initially put it to a jig tune based on The Seven Stars ( which sounds like a pub name)It was probably common around Wm W's time. Ideally a tune from the William Irwin tune book or another Lakes musician would suit me better so this may be just a first shot. Here's a link for the words and some varied opinions! http://wonderingminstrels.blogspot.co.uk/2000/04/tables-turned-william-wordsworth.html |
