Subject: RE: Tune Req: The Little Choir Boy Sings Alone Tonight From: Iona Date: 14 May 12 - 03:06 AM Thank you! I just contacted both the sites, I hope they've got it. :) That's a super rare recording. Lots of references to it, but nobody's got the thing itself. Oh well.....that's the way it goes with me! Ha! Thanks again, y'all! |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: The Little Choir Boy Sings Alone Tonight From: GUEST,999 Date: 03 May 12 - 01:46 PM Iona, keep an eye on e-Bay. There are a few around but they all seem to be in the $50 department. It's a relatively rare recording. Also, you might try a personal message to Jim Dixon. He is a whiz with regards to finding stuff. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: The Little Choir Boy Sings Alone Tonight From: Iona Date: 03 May 12 - 01:39 PM **refreshing** This is a 78, not an LP. I'm more concerned with finding the tune than I am with finding the lyrics. Does anybody know someone who might have this? |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: The Little Choir Boy Sings Alone Tonight From: Iona Date: 02 May 12 - 10:19 PM Thanks a bunch, Triple9! Actually the Nolan-Giles thing is why I'm looking for the song--I was talking with the lady from the bobnolan-sop site and we were wondering how to find a recording. I thought I'd look here. :D Thanks for the tip-off to the LP! That's a start! Oh and the whole title wouldn't fit in the thread name space....... Thanks! You ought to wear a cape, you come to my rescue so often. ;) Iona |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: The Little Choir Boy Sings Alone Tonight From: GUEST,999 Date: 02 May 12 - 05:32 PM "Bob Nolan approached Lem Giles, of the Beverly Hill Billies, to see if the two groups might exchange a few of their unpublished tunes. Such tunes could not be used on the air without the consent of the composer. Giles turned down each Nolan request. Finally, a frustrated Nolan informed Giles that if he didn't cooperate he would take one of Giles' most popular songs, The Little Choir Boy Sings All Alone Tonight, change one note every four bars and take credit for it. Out of that challenge came the beautiful Nolan tune, I Wonder if She Waits for Me Tonight. (Ken Griffis, JEMF Quarterly, Spring 1980 p 7) Unfortunately, no one has found "The Little Choir Boy Sings All Alone Tonight" for comparison." that is from http://www.bobnolan-sop.net/Special%20Features/Song%20of%20the%20Month/2009/I%20Wonder%20if%20She%20Waits%20(Feb)/I%20Wonder.htm |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: The Little Choir Boy Sings Alone Tonight From: GUEST,999 Date: 02 May 12 - 05:26 PM The Choir Boy Sings All Alone Tonight is the correct title, I think. There seems to have been some shenanigans regarding the song in that Nolan got cranky with Giles or Giles with Nolan, but I'm not sure what over because that reference was a Google snippet. I'm gonna go look around. |
Subject: Tune Req: The Little Choir Boy Sings Alone Tonight From: Iona Date: 02 May 12 - 04:07 PM I'm looking for the tune and lyrics to "The Little Choir Boy Sings Alone Tonight" by Lem Giles. I believe this song was covered by Frank Luther and Vernon Dalhart (not sure about that last one). I'm also really hoping to find somewhere a recording of this song--if anybody knows where I could find one, I'd be grateful! |
