Yodeling from Down Under ?

Yes, I eat a strict diet of organic fruit and veg, pulses and whole grain.

Every morning when I wake up, plenty of uncomfortable Yodeling from Down Under !!!

Australia had a HUGE yodelling tradition influenced by Jimmie Rogers, Harry Torani, Vernon Dalhart and Hank Snow. The best survey of Aussie yodelling appears on a new compilation I have released via the ABC. It is 'Down the Overlander's Trail' (Double CD, ABC Music Jan 2012). It features our most famous pioneer yodellers up 'till 1955. Most were radio or tent show artists like Tex Morton, Reg Lindsay, Shirley Thoms and the Two Barnstormers. The CD comes with comprehensive booklet notes but if you download the album from iTunes (it is under my name or album title) I am happy to send you an email of the PDF booklet.

Make sure you yodel along.

Arkie, we need a Ozcatter who follows country as well as folk to know how famous the others are in the country scene, but I don't know such any Ozcatter. I know a few folkies who like some country music, I even know a left-wing folkie who is well known in the country scene ...

After discovering the linked tracks in a search for versions of "The Mockingbird Yodel" I did wonder how well known these four singers were in Australia. These versions of "The Mockingbird Yodel" are different from the version I heard by Carolina Cotton which started the searches.

Mary Schneider is a country singer who is known outside the country scene.

I'd never heard of the others, but a quick search said they are country singers, which is not a genre I follow.

I realize that not everyone appreciates this art, but exceptional talent should be recognized and what is exhibited on these youtube tracks is not "just" yodeling.

I don't have time to listen today, but thanks for the links. The more yodeling there is in this world, the more hope there is for manking.

Some amazing yodels from Aussie singers.

The first three are The Mockingbird Yodel. Last is Clarinet Polka.

All singers are new to me.

Angela Hayden

Laura Downing

Dianna Corcoran

Mary Schneider
