.... Jessica Sanchez put it over the top for me with her Etta James song tonight... I knew she could sing but I didn't know she could get down... I know that now... 16 years old, my butt...

This girl/woman is better than the rest in every respect... Not too sure what her professional career will be like but it will be interesting to watch what she does...

She blew a Whitney Houston song outta the atmosphere too. I think she wins no matter what the official result is.

I usually avoid getting sucked into American Idol - but this year the final ten or so contestants were remarkable - most of them, I don't quite get the appeal of the little blonde. Jessica is extraordinary - but so is the Black guy .... I don't care who actually wins; I just enjoy the performances.

Btw, if you didn't know she could get down, you must not have seen that Proud Mary performance. But I agree about her Etta James song.

Now I've seen buddy's rendition of the James Brown song - have to agree with the judges; it was really something.

Jessica still in and, IMHO, Phillip PHillips, tho he has a promising future in music, is next to go...

BTW, the black guy is Josuah and he comes from singing in church choirs... He shou;ld be a finalist...

Hollie, the blond girl, I donno??? She sings really well but I don't see her with a career...

Yup, it'll come to Josh and Jessica. Phil is just a little too off-centre .... I just caught the last couple of minutes tonight, just enough to see that Hollie was out. I start losing interest at this point - too much wallowing in emotion for my taste, not enough singing.

I agree that Phillip will most likely be the next one eliminated. BUT - he's the one I'd probably pay good money to see in concert. Jessica may be the best technical singer of the three but she's not my taste in music. She could easily win the whole thing - she's the type of pop singer that America seems to like the most. And Joshua is totally off the hook. The passion he uses when he sings is amazing. I'm glad to see that Jimmy Iovine has already signed him to a contract.

At this point I don't think winning or losing will affect the outcome of whatever career they have. From now on it's up to them.

Y'know what bugs me about American Idol? It's all about live singing. And that's what attracts me to the show. But when established "stars" come on for guest shots they almost always lip-sync. What's up with that? You have to be able to sing for a live audience until you become a star? And after that you can fake it?

Jeesh, that never occurred to me - they lip-synch?! That's pretty lame. But don't get me started on what bugs me about that show - as I say, I usually avoid it, but this year some of the performances were just so compelling that I found myself coming back for more.

Yes, Phillip is years ahead of the others on arrangements and song choices... It will be interesting to see what kind of original material Jessica's handlers/managers will pick for her... She can go lots of ways here... She needs good "music" people around her...

Joshua, on the other hand is going to be R&B...

Phillip??? Alt rock...

I'm still with Jessica even though she hasn't had the best night but...

... I'm beginning to think that Phillip will win because he plays more contemporary music, in spite of the fact that he can't really sing...

Oh well???

We'll see...

BTW, lotta us performers who really can't sing... lol..

It's many fold at this point in particular. Voice. Musicianship in arrangement and interpretation. Stage presecnce.

In the end, remember one thing. America votes... supposedly.

Very disappointed that Phillip is still in...

Joshua is a better singer...

Phillip will have a monster career but ain't a singer... Lotta tricks... Catchy arrangements... All great...

Joshua sings circles around him...

MO, of course...

I would have said the same thing, but Phillip is improving. Joshua is capable of creating magic, but that scream-singing of his gets on my nerves. It's not the style but the actual sound, AND that he seems to do it in every song, as if THAT is his power play. Phillip hasn't been as exciting, but I don't go through the whole fingernails-on-a-chalkboard thing with him either.

Jessica sings well but has no stage presence. Phillip pulls those awful 'jazz' faces which seem to convey cleverness rather than heart.

I'm out of American Idol myself now.

Joshua is a better singer but I agree that the wailing and "voice tricks" are a detriment. It certainly puts me off and these may be part of why he goted voted off. I am gonna go out on a limb and say the same thing could happen again based on Gail's point. The show IS called American IDOL... not Best Singer. I enjoyed Philip's performances more than theirs even tho he can't sing ANYwhere near as good as them.

"Phillip will have a monster career but ain't a singer"

Yeah - but think of all the singers that never would have made it past the audition - Bob Dylan, Muddy Waters, Janis Joplin, Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, need I go on? They're after pop singers after all. Phillip appeals to the young girls that vote a lot. That's why he has a good chance of winning. IMHO. We'll see. With the right producer and songs all three of them should have very respectable careers.

Jessica already was voted off once. I think the winner will have more to do with the best last performance and not who's the best singer.

I agree, Jeri... It's gonna come down the last songs... Jessica needs to find the right songs 'cause Phillip can sing the phone book and make it interesting...

"... Phillip can sing the phone book and make it interesting..."

That's the ticket. HIS ticket. He entertains. He takes other's songs and makes them his own in interpretation and delivery.

Sorry for this, but, she "lip sincs". She's an amazing singer but the showmanship just ain't there.

But, like Bobert says, if she can find the right songs and ignite a passion in the audience... we'll see.

In any case, for the detractors of such shows, I like these shows because they give everyday folks a chance who otherwise would never get a shot. Yes, they are akin to a "reality" "survival" shows but at least these talent shows showcase artistic qualities and do not use the baser side of humans for "entertainment" (which I find sickening and cannot bear to watch). Rant over.

Well... if you watched that final show just now, it's in the bag. No, he can't hold a candle to her voice, but he is "The Idol" hands down. It's about entertaining and she may learn to do that some day but she didn't do it tonight. On the other hand, he did... BIG time.

If she can get some coaching with "being an idol" (she's ONLY 16 YEARS OLD! and she is amazing) she will be a great force. But, that ain't gonna happen immediately.

Over all, I enjoyed the "competition". It was entertaining, especially to see these kids get the chance to strut their stuff. As far as some people saying it's using them to make money... good for them to make a few bucks and get some exposure that they wouldn't get to otherwise.

Guess I missed it... Thought it was tomorrow night??? Oh well.. Phillip is ready out of the box...

Jessica needs handlers but can out-sing Phillip in every respect...

I think you are right, Gn-ze...

I found Phillip boring and occasionally irritating tonight. Seems like he's a one-trick pony who relies more on style than talent. I also noticed the judges seemed to be pushing for him. Reminds me that folks who come in in second place sometimes have better careers. They also may have a little bit more freedom.

Oh well.

I didn't see it but given Phillip's performances over the season, I agree with Jeri... I think Phillip is limited to "alt" this or that but Jessica can go in more directions...

Phillip??? Not the next Springsteen...

Just MO, of course...
