I've just come a recording of of a song in Irish called Feach a Phádraig and been told that the singer is Father Charlie Coen of New York. This surprises me because I always thought his talents were confined to whistle, flute and concertina, and this is a very nice piece of singing indeed. In fact it is somewhat reminiscent of Éamonn Ó Bróithe.

Can anyone confirm that is indeed Father Charlie singing?

Also, I don't believe I've come across the song before. Does anyone have a translation?

Interesting one, alright. Is this the recording you were listening to?

Bottom of this page

- a double-tracking? Seems to be a hymn - perhaps not surprisingly. Don't think I've ever heard it before. Can't say I hear much resemblance to Eamonn O Broithe...

Incidentally, he came first in singing at the All Ireland Fleadh in 1978, according to Fintan Vallelly's Companion...
