Subject: RE: Russian music - sheet music or scores From: Stringsinger Date: 21 May 12 - 12:25 PM The Birch Tree and Red Sarafan are lovely songs. I love the Pianitsky Chorus, the Alexandrov Chorus and the Red Army Chorus tunes such as "The Whirlwind". (Ti Postoi). Gyedete Ulyetse is another pretty tune. Russians are great with melody like the Irish. Lara's Theme is not Russian but composed I believe by Maurice Jarre, a movie writer. |

Subject: Russian music - sheet music or scores From: GUEST,oilman Date: 20 May 12 - 05:41 PM I've been working in Russia lately and had a certain amount of exposure to Russian folk music. Leaving aside the whole issue that Russian ideas of "Russian music" are somewhat different from Western ones, it occurred to me that since a balalaika is typically tuned EEA, that isn't so very different from the two middle strings of a mandolin or tenor banjo ( at least one in the "Iris"h GDAE tuning ). So, I'm looking for sheet music, mandolin or banjo tabs or whatever anyone has? I'm particularly looking at a couple of tunes, "The Peddlers" and "Gari Gari" on the basis that they are so immediately recognisable and seem fairly simple structurally. I suppose "Lara's Theme" would be the "Duelling Banjos" or "When I'm Cleaning Windows" of the genre... |
