Subject: RE: What are some other good compilations? From: Joe Offer Date: 21 May 12 - 08:03 AM Bear Family Records produced In the Shadow of Clinch Mountain. It is a wonderful piece of work, and I'd kill to get a copy of the book that came with the CD set. But it's too darn expensive - over $300 now, although I've seen it for $215. JSP Records has two five-disc boxes of Carter Family recordings, and I believe they are exactly the same as ten of the twelve CDs in the Bear Family set - without the wonderful book. You should be able to get the two JSP boxes for about $30 apiece. JSP has lots of wonderful stuff you might be interested in, usually less than $30 for a five-disc box. -Joe- |
Subject: What are some other good compilations? From: GUEST Date: 21 May 12 - 01:24 AM I got Harry Smith of course, Screamin' and Hollerin': Charlie Patton, The Bristol Sessions, and some Dust to Digital. Is there any really imprtant sets I'm missing out on? I was also wondering if the Bear Family Records Carter Family was worth the price tag. |
