Well, the Weirdlore day of music might not be happening, but the CD will live forever! Check this review on Terrascope:

We popped in on a pagan fairy-lore gathering in the shadow of Pendle a few weeks back, which seemed jolly enough despite the proliferation of plastic pointy ears. And this year it's the 400th anniversary of the witch trials, which we're commemorating with a special Demdyke show at The Fylde in September.

Meanwhile, by way of ceremonial preliminaries and general weirdlore...

Sure, but it IS near the Folk Police.. Who I think should organise a weekend fest. Festivals are where it's at innit? They could even have masking workshops, Wickerman screenings and everything.

Pendle Hill could be the perfect focus for a weirdlore weekender near the FP too:

A mini alt-folk fest supervised by the Folk Police might work for those of us who don't live in Bristol..

Oh dear, what a sad poisonous little post.

Here's hoping the Weirdlore CD gets as raved over as your other outputs have been thus far Spleen!

STOP PRESS ++ LATEST NEWS ++ Queen to be held responsible for lack of interest in no-mark westcountry weird-beard hippyshow (sorry, english folk 'underground' spectacular with lots of 'strange things' going on: Hobbity decor..candles galore..careful..it's sooo DARK in there) despite being heavily promoted in farty male pattern blandness mag which nobody reads.

Reports indicate that the 86 year-old monarch actually physically prevented people desperate to buy tickets for this sold-out once-in-a-lifetime event. Also to blame are the cuts, the incisions, the ancient Greeks, the modern Greeks, the war against drugs, and..er..Thatcher.

From fRoots:

We are sad to report the cancellation of Weirdlore

Weirdlore was to have been a fabulous all-dayer of psych folk and beyond, taking place in Bristol on Sunday 10th June, with an imaginative bill of some of the most intriguing artists from the English folk underground. You can find full details of what might have been at www.weirdlore.com

Unfortunately the proverbial "circumstances beyond our control" - a common euphemism for the recession, the cuts, the Jubilee, the Olympics and all the other factors currently seriously blighting live music in the UK - meant that advance ticket sales nowhere near matched the apparent enthusiasm being shown for the event. As a result we have very regretfully taken the decision to cancel to avoid a large financial loss and a disappointing atmosphere. All ticket buyers have been notified and had their payments refunded.

The only silver lining is that the event had already inspired a compilation CD. Weirdlore: Notes From The Folk Underground - with 18 original and specially recorded tracks including many of the artists who had been due to perform on the day - will be released by the go-ahead Folk Police label on 11th June, distributed nationally by Proper Music.
