Here's an e-mail I received. I haven't been able to find the song here. Can somebody help?
Good morning! I was wondering after looking at your site if you happen to know of a song called "A Crippled Soldier" or "The Crippled Soldier." I heard it a few times back in hmm maybe 1961 or . 1962. I have no clue as to who may have sang it - Was a man .. the first line goes something like this:
WHEN THE TRAIN PULLED INTO THE STATION. THE DEPOT WAS BARE AND FORLORN....
also it was played on a Canadian radio station. Can't seem to get any help on it at all after all these years. I am now 65 so have not given up as of yet lol. Thank you for any help you may be able to give.

Also youtube.

Song for a Crippled Soldier by Georg Mateos

The last probably is it- its form makes it easy enough to put to music. Posted at authorsden in 2007, but no information on when it was first composed.

As [or "when"] the train pulled into the station, the depot was empty and bare
Not even the voice of a stranger or a loved one to welcome him there.
He went to the home of his loved one, the one who had promised to wed.
She looked at his leg and then sadly, she looked in his eyes and then said....

I hear Hank Snow sing this in my head or even Eddie Legere. Could also come out of Newfoundland.

"She looked at his leg and then sadly, she looked in his eyes and then said....    " Guest, this must be the beginning of the chorus. You can't remember a line from it?

Guest, I have Eddie's phone number. I spoke to him but he said he didn't know the song. If you were a member I would send you a p.m. with it but as it is now I can't put it on for public viewing. Good luck.

Possibly a Gussie Lord Davis song from the 1880s? He wrote a number of tearjerkers of this ilk, like "In the Baggage Coach Ahead." Good luck finding much online, though.
