Subject: Banks of Green Willow - Cyril Tawney From: SRD Date: 26 May 12 - 06:25 PM A friend tells me that Cyril Tawney released a album called 'Banks of Green Willow' but I can find no info on it at all. Can anyone shed light on the subject please? |
Subject: RE: Banks of Green Willow - Cyril Tawney From: Phil Edwards Date: 26 May 12 - 06:42 PM Sadly, "cyriltawney.co.uk" is currently down - I don't know who was running it, but whoever it was they seem to have lost interest. There is a Cyril Tawney discography here, with no sign of an album with that name. Tony Rose did release an album called Banks of Green Willow - might there have been some confusion with that one? |
Subject: RE: Banks of Green Willow - Cyril Tawney From: Effsee Date: 26 May 12 - 11:05 PM The Cyril Tawney site is not down through lack of interest, but probably because of the demise of Cyril's wife, Rosemary. who passed on recently. |
Subject: RE: Banks of Green Willow - Cyril Tawney From: Phil Edwards Date: 27 May 12 - 04:01 AM That's sad to hear. It would be good to save the site - does anyone know anyone who might know the family? |
Subject: RE: Banks of Green Willow - Cyril Tawney From: The Sandman Date: 27 May 12 - 04:11 AM Cyril had an elder brother called Archie, who lived in ashton under lyme, i doubt if heis computer literate.I am not sure if Archie is still about. Subject: RE: Banks of Green Willow - Cyril Tawney From: Reinhard Date: 27 May 12 - 06:27 AM I believe that I have a full discography of Cyril Tawney's vinyl and CDs at Mainly Norfolk, though a few cassettes are missing. Banks of Green Willow is on none of these albums. |
Subject: RE: Banks of Green Willow - Cyril Tawney From: SRD Date: 27 May 12 - 04:48 PM Thanks all. From what my friend implied I understood that the recording was withdrawn although a few poor quality cassettes are still extant. I just thought it was an interesting story and wondered if anyone else knew of it. |
Subject: RE: Banks of Green Willow - Cyril Tawney From: Spongebrother Date: 28 May 12 - 03:14 PM I believe that Shep Woolley was bequeathed Cyril's material. |
Subject: RE: Banks of Green Willow - Cyril Tawney From: GUEST,old git Date: 28 May 12 - 03:30 PM I'm pretty certain that Jim Hancock set up Cyril's site. He'll probably be able to tell you what happened to it. His website is www.folktalk.co.uk geoff t |
Subject: RE: Banks of Green Willow - Cyril Tawney From: Phil Edwards Date: 29 May 12 - 03:01 AM I've been in touch with Jim; he did set the site up originally, although it was a while ago. His view is that Rosemary was quite an assiduous archivist of Cyril's work & of the site, and that she will have passed the material on. I hope that is the case. |
Subject: RE: Banks of Green Willow - Cyril Tawney From: Reinhard Date: 29 May 12 - 03:20 PM Rosemary Tawney wrote in Cyril's biography on the now defunct website: "The EFDSS Vaughan Williams Memorial Library now holds and maintains Cyril's archive and digitisation is ongoing. It includes his large collection of correspondence, articles, cuttings, photographs and other documents relating to the modern British Folk Revival, as well as to his personal career. The results of his fieldwork in the West of England, which he did mainly in the 1960s, are held by the British Library Sound Archive." |
