I got talking to a stranger late one night recently, and he sang a folk song which sounded a bit biblical, definitely a hymn sort of feel to it... The lyrics were along the lines of 'cursed be them who blacken the earth' and lts of other people etc who were cursed. It was a really dark song about the effects ofindustrialisation, or perhaps the effect of human beings on each other and on the land. Can anyone identify this song? It sounded like it was english, probably hundreds of years old. Thanks. Nicko.

Probably the wrong song, but the song "Farewell My Green Valleys" by Glen Reid has the verse-

It hurts me to think of the things I left behind
And the famine has blackened our land
And to look for something that I may never find,
It's a problem that's now close at hand.

Sung by Susan McCann, Wolfe Tones, and others.
