Subject: RE: Celine Dion's pad for sale From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 29 May 12 - 08:45 AM I looked at the picture of the entrance hall, Jack. Who painted it beige, the ultimate suburban color? I guess I won't be making an offer. |

Subject: RE: Celine Dion's pad for sale From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 29 May 12 - 09:34 AM It's supposed to be gaudy, Bobad. "Castle in Spain" and "quiet good taste" do not go together. Curious, I went to YouTube to hear how Celine Dion sounds. Funny that she should sound vaguely like somebody from Tennessee or Kentucky. I guess that's what sells. The video I selected was of some song about her heart. Amazing, the amount of capital it must have taken to produce that - huge graphic of the moon (our tax dollars at work), the extras, their costumes, the fiddler, the whistle-player, the orchestra (if any) the gowns, the foundation garments.... From capital to castle, I guess. |
Subject: RE: Celine Dion's pad for sale From: GUEST,999 Date: 29 May 12 - 10:32 AM The castle is in Canada. |
Subject: RE: Celine Dion's pad for sale From: open mike Date: 29 May 12 - 12:44 PM furnished!...24,000-square-foot mansion located on a private island in Ile-Gagnon, Quebec... chateau on sale for a whopping $29.5 million. http://www.castlesoftherealm.com/2012/05/19/for-sale-celine-dions-furnished-quebec-mansion-ctv-calgary/ http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2146152/Celine-Dion-puts-private-island-Quebec-chateau-sale-whopping-29-5-million.html |
Subject: RE: Celine Dion's pad for sale From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 29 May 12 - 01:01 PM No reason why a castle in Spain can't be in Canada. Fantasy doesn't respect legal boundaries. Remember the bridge in the song "Far Away Places with Strange-sounding Names"? I start getting restless whenever I hear the whistle of a train. I look for the day when I can get away and look for that castle in Spain. |
Subject: RE: Celine Dion's pad for sale From: gnu Date: 29 May 12 - 02:22 PM Can't seem to find the slide show. On a private island? So, it's a fishin camp an ya gotta row to the mainland ta go huntin? She ain't gettin no more than $25M fer that. |

Subject: RE: Celine Dion's pad for sale From: Stilly River Sage Date: 29 May 12 - 06:46 PM I had to hunt around - the arrows show up when you mouse over either side of the photos. So many rooms with dining tables and chairs. So few rooms with bookshelves. That stone dining room is hideous. That airy bathroom is lovely, but I bet it isn't very easy to generate a warm steamy environment on a cold day. SRS |
Subject: RE: Celine Dion's pad for sale From: Jack Campin Date: 29 May 12 - 06:57 PM And no room that seems intended for making music in. It all looks a bit like the set for a video game - you expect a guy with big muscles in plastic armour to crash in through one of the windows with a laser gun blazing. |
Subject: RE: Celine Dion's pad for sale From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 30 May 12 - 08:54 AM Good point, Jack. Maybe Ms. Dion has discovered that movie-type glamour doesn't actually make for a liveable home. |
Subject: RE: Celine Dion's pad for sale From: maeve Date: 30 May 12 - 09:07 AM Ah yes, I found that slideshow, Jack; thanks. I did like the painted ceiling in #3. Other than that, it's not a home, it's an uncomfortable showpiece. I'd say Ms. Dion made a wise choice in letting it go. |
Subject: RE: Celine Dion's pad for sale From: meself Date: 30 May 12 - 10:14 AM I wouldn't pay a penny over 20 million for it. |
Subject: RE: Celine Dion's pad for sale From: gnu Date: 30 May 12 - 03:28 PM Thanks maeve and Jack. It's obvious why she is dumping it. I wouldn't want to cook in that terribly UNfunctional kitchen either. She must get so frustrated! |
Subject: RE: Celine Dion's pad for sale From: JennieG Date: 30 May 12 - 05:36 PM It's not.....very.....cosy, is it? |
Subject: RE: Celine Dion's pad for sale From: ChanteyLass Date: 30 May 12 - 09:03 PM Makes me think of the mansions in Newport, RI. |
Subject: RE: Celine Dion's pad for sale From: gnu Date: 30 May 12 - 10:06 PM Not very cosy, CL?... I'll say. I mean, ya'd hafta cut an pile at least a cord a day a yer good hardwood from freeze ta thaw and beyond ta keep that shack cosy thru a Cuebec winter an she don't don't look sturdy enough fer that. Rene shoulda found himself a big boned lass fer cuttin that kinda firewood eh? But, if ya hafta settle, ya hafta settle. He is gettin on in years so I understand. |
Subject: RE: Celine Dion's pad for sale From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 31 May 12 - 11:09 AM Gnu mentioned that the kitchen is unfunctional. Gnu, that kitchen is probably designed for caterers to work in. They have different needs. A friend of mine once had a piano student whose family had both a gas stove and an electric stove. One catering firm preferred gas, the other electric. If I had a chateau, I would have a kitchen like Dion's for the caterers, and another kitchen, small and useful, just for me. I'm surprised that the chateau doesn't seem to have that common nouveau rich accessory, the grand piano with no music (sticks & dots) to be played on it. I might enjoy living there if I had twelve children or started an orphanage. |
Subject: RE: Celine Dion's pad for sale From: Little Hawk Date: 31 May 12 - 11:39 AM I can't see either Chongo or myself living in that place. Too much time spent dusting! You'd never be done with it. Penelope Rutledge, on the other hand, would take to it like a duck to water...but she has a lot of hired help. Perhaps Winston will buy it for her as a Valentine's Day gift...or an olive branch. They haven't been on terribly good terms of late. I, for one, would be thrilled if Penelope had a vacation house in Canada. She's almost like royalty. |
Subject: RE: Celine Dion's pad for sale From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 31 May 12 - 03:39 PM I don't think there would be much dusting, LH. Not much traffic on the island, probably, and the grounds are cloaked in grass and greenery. Heat system is probably hot water or steam, which is not dusty. How do you say 'catfish' in French? We could buy it and turn it into a year-old center (I mean centre) for traditional music. What fun we could have! How to finance it? My idea is that every person in any genre who does the following pays one unit of currency into the kitty. If you're Canadian, it's one Canadian dollar, if you're European, it's a euro, etc. These are the things. You have to pay if you: rhyme walk with talk rhyme mountain with fountain sing, compose, print, post a song where a boffin meets a maiden (at least he assumes she's a maiden) and proposes marriage first thing - even before saying hello sing, compose, print, post a song where a girl loses her lover and of course she kills herself No doubt other catters can add to the list. |
Subject: RE: Celine Dion's pad for sale From: GUEST,crazy little woman Date: 01 Jun 12 - 02:43 PM I like the idea of a palace for catters, leeneia, but Celine Dion's place is never going to work. I've been looking at the pix, and there are only two bedrooms and one bathroom. And the bathroom doesn't even have a shower. No wonder she wants to move. |
