I'm trying to find the tunes for a couple of songs by Silly Wizard. Namely, The Fisherman's Wife (or song), If I were a Blackbird, and Hame, Hame, Hame. All are from the disk 'Wild and Beautiful.' Any help would be greatly appreaciated. Joe A displeced Highland Scot learning to play the whistles.

Joe, I can't help you with the tunes (though I can probably still sing the chorus of If I Were a Blackbird -- haven't heard it in a dozen years or so), but if you're learning to play the whistle you should check out a little booklet that I think is called the Irish Tinwhistle Tutor. Yes, I know, you said Scot, not Irish, but it's a helpful book all the same. Damned if I can remember the author's name, though I remember he was from Pittsburgh and I remember I heard him and his band play at the Philadelphia Highland Games in 1982 or so. I probably still have the book buried at home somewhere, and if I remember to look for it I'll post the correct title and author. Check a good folk music store or catalog. I love the whistle part on Blackbird. Wish I had taken my own advice and learned to play!

Joe if you have the words for Fishermens Lament I would greatly appreciate them.(on a storm tossed shore line a woman is waiting)is as far as I ever got. I have met Phil Cunningham on a few occasions and he has always been most helpful with tunes or advice I know he has a web site (can't do them blue clicky things)He may help you . Keith

The words for Fisherman's Song are in the digitrad under F for Fisherman.

I'm sorry I haven't been practicing blue, green or polka-dotted clicky things so I can't do that for you.

I think you'll find that "If I was a Blackbird was written either for or by Ronnie Ronalde.
but then again I've been wrong before he certainly made it famous

If I was a blackbird is in DT (2 versions) and with music in Colm O Lochlainn's 'Irish Street Ballads'. See the "Home, dearie, home" thread for a "Hame, hame, hame" songs.
