Maybe we should have stuck this up sooner sine we have now finished and going our separate ways, that is Ron is off on a lecture tour and Martin and I plus spouses are now having a holiday in the pacific North west. It's very hard to get gigs anywhere so we took a punt and went anyway. It was, no, I won't say it. Seattle was a ball, for brits, the fringe was excellent for singing and it was nice for the organisers to try and find us a slot but hey we didn't need it. Vancouver Folk Song Society were brilliant and in particular Allison who kicked a few butts to reach out of their comfort zone to host an evening with us and graced by the presence of Jon and Rika( they know who they are) and more importantly the good people of the VFFS who came together to give us a very memorable evening. Thanks from Peter, Ron and Martin

Peter et al-

So pleased that you folks got a chance to sing and explore this part of the world.

It's certainly a lovely landscape and the music community is tops.

So did you get a chance to lead "The Crawl"?

"From the Troller to the Raven with all stops in between!"

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Yes Charley, the Park Royal Hotel is no more so my substituting it for another in our version of the song turned out to quite prophetic. It was no accident that we are staying in a guest house in North Shore Vancouver, can strongly recommend the "Sailor Hagars" a brew pub with proper hand pulled beer and decent food - It is now "The sailor hagars, RustyGull, Square Rigger and Queens Cross" Met someone last night who actually used to do the crawl with Mann and Kelly, apparently there were more , quite notorious pubs, that were left out of the lyrics. Apparently our landlady here wanted to buy "The Rusty Gull" when she first moved here twenty five years ago, her husband thought it not a good idea because there was a brothel next door, she bought the brothel, then a guest house and then the pub and changed it's name to "The Dog and Gun". (The last bit was made up ;0), oops sorry have had to explain a lot of the jokes - I was apologising for holding a piece of paper in my hand explaining that as one gets older the memory wasn't what it ought to be and ones eyesight fades, I then pinned to myself an A4 sized chunk of paper with my name on it in large letters, people generally thought it was a good idea doh!)

Excellent!

It's nice to get a real feel for the background to the songs we love to sing.

I feel similarly about Victoria Harbour with regard to some of C. Fox Smith's poems.

I'll probably do a revisit to BC some time in 2013.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Well we were asked to come back for 2013, Terry you would love Northwest Folklife and they would love you, 90% participation and busking everywhere!. Anyway we've been asked to do gigs everywhere so one never does know, I jokingly said to one if they would act as our agent and get us enough bookings we would come, they said ok that is no problem! It is the people we meet that make these trips so memorable and this trip is no exception
