Apologies for not posting this earlier, my BT broadband connection has been crap all day.

Last Monday night I was lucky enough to catch a performance of "Ballroom of Joys and Sorrows" at the Palace Theatre, Watford. There's a performance in Greenwich Saturday 2nd June with Greenwich locals augmenting the professional dancers and musician. The performance at Cecil Sharp House on Thursday 7th June will feature the cast I saw at Watford.

"Featuring a highly experienced international cast and musicians and over 50 local people of all ages, and created by Watford Palace Creative Associate Kate Flatt (Songs From a Hotel Bedroom, Soul Play and original choreography for Les Miserables).

With specially composed live music mixing traditional and Brazilian styles by Adriano Adewale - recently seen at the Barbican in Theatre Rites 'Mojo'.

Experience a shared journey of discovery where dance reinvents the transition from child to adult, departure & reunion, death & loss and most importantly the celebration of union & love."

An extraordinary new dance theatre production by choreographer Kate Flatt and composer Adriano Adewale.
Drawing on English and global folk traditions, a group of travelling Players arrives to animate Greenwich Dance's ballroom with stories told through live music, dance and song.

Tim Van Eyken advised on the traditional music content and takes the part of the balladeer, introducing the players, setting the scene and carrying the narrative in song. Both professional and amateur cast brought out the themes beautifully.
