Well, now that many of ya'll have witnessed, thanks to YouTube, that ol' hillbilly can actually play some blues, I was thinkin' of maybe an October northbound tour into Canada so I can meet up with alot of ya'll up there and on the way...

Here's kinda what I need:

Places to play... Either house concerts, where I can sell CD's and maybe pass the jar around, or joints where I can play for $$$...

Places to stay... I've slept on couches...

A little food and drink...

Here's kinda where I could be:

Stop 1: Washington, D.C.

Stop 2: New York, Philly, Pa???

Stop 3: Upstate New York, Michigan

Stop 4: Canada

So, I'm open and if I get enough pieces put together then maybe we can pull this off???

So??? Whaddayathink???

Me, Brucie and Beer are relatively close together - Beer and Brucie are real close and I am an hour and a half away - LH, he's way out in left field somewhere. I don`t know what US citizens need to get into Canada but you do need a passport to get back into the US.

I think you will need a passport. You should probably check whether you need a VISA, too, since you will be working there.

I'm in the middle of nowhere - eastern Ontario in between Montreal, Quebec and Ottawa - the capital city of Canada. No blues or folk clubs around here - the closest would be Ottawa but I'm not up on that scene. Beer's brother, who lives in Ottawa and is a musician, may know about smaller venues that might be a possibility - the only one's I hear from are through advertisements and they are for bigger name acts that are probably booked well in advance.

Then you have our Coffee House, but I would have to see if the group that is already booked would be willing to give up their spot. The only two Friday evening shows that I may be able to cancel would by the 12th or the 19 of October. If you can figure which week, then I would speak to the musician that is booked to play.

We'll play with it and see if folks step up with empty couches, canned beans and an opportunity to play and make a few bucks for gasoline...

You get more snow than we do.

Sometimes in December. Rarely in November anymore. Very difficult to get ice for our Igloo's.
I assure you that October will be beautiful for you. There is no better scene than driving up through Vermont, New Hampshire and up state Vermont then into Quebec for the fall colors.

Ditto Beer's comments regarding Toronto area & snow, lately it's even later to arrive here. Different story though in someplace like Goderich where Mudcat's own black walnut hosts Riverview House Concerts. She's in the lee of Lake Huron so there is lake-effect snow starting late October although lately it's hard to predict when it will begin to stay on the ground.

Throughout southern and mid-western Ontario early October is either mainly green or a great mix of green & colour, and by the end of Oct leaf-green is all but gone, there is only evergreen & colour left, plus more and more bare branches. Lots of self-guided studio tours in rural/cottage areas on October weekends.

I am guessing this trip is pretty much north-south axis from Charlotte and not westering? There are a few thousand kilometers of Canada 1 to navigate to Vancouver and down to Seattle, but a worthy venture if you've gone to the hassle of getting the passport, and yes, you will need it, both directions.

Bobert, how long are you figuring the whole tour to be? Have you narrowed down the dates, or what dates are ideal, what ones totally out of the question (e.g. you said October, but might that include late Sept or early Nov if there were performance dates available?

FWIW I think it's totally do-able as soon as you decide to reach out and take a bite of the apple! However there is no doubt that self-promotion and self-management are a lot of work, not to mention a pain in the ass when what you really want to do is make music. But you'll get to know some wonderful people along the way.

You know Bobert life is just getting to damn busy. I have been retired since 2001 and the honest truth is that I just don't have the time spend on your project. I'm sorry, but just to many things happening for me as well. I'm involved in a very large project and family commitments. But as you say, maybe next year.
