REGRETS - I am really not 100% sure about posting this, as it is so personal. And we don't celebrate "Father's Day", never did. But I just thought to mark the day anyway and personal or not, perhaps it might trigger equivalent thoughts in you.

The song can apply to many situations; but I wrote it for my father, as he drifted into virtual coma in his final few days. We knew that in all likelihood he would not become lucid again and it suddenly struck me: no more chance to say the million things left unsaid...


Regrets

I'll write you every day a simple letter,
So I may be no more misunderstood.

Each morning I will bring you a bunch of flowers.

Listen to your advice, correct my faults.
My face you'll never see sombre or tearful,
And smiles will replace the frown that was.
And I will make you proud; and I'll be prouder.
Of all my past mistakes none will remain.
The bad things from the past will turn to powder.
Just do for me one thing: Come back again.

But if you don't return, as all are saying,
The times that we have shared I won't resent.
And I will never cease hoping and praying.
I will try anyway my ways to mend.
Though every wound does heal sooner or later,
I wish that you could see the change in me.
Many regrets I have, but one is greater:
That we will never know what might have been.

Love the song and the lyrics remind me of the things I should have said and done when first my father, then sister and finally mother died within a short time.
Too late now, but thanks to your words I will do and say more to and with my wife and daughter.

We all need to say some things while it is still possible... but like almost everyone, I didn't say enough to the important people. I was fortunate to be the last family member too speak to my father in the hospital and reassure him that everyone was thinking of him, and when he asked if I realized my Mother had been staying there at night, I smiled and said, "I know...and she intends to be here as long as necessary."

He nodded... the family went off to supper, and when we returned, he was gone.

Certainly struck a deep resonant chord in me George.

And if it helps, then from what I know of you - from meeting you once very briefly, from listening to many of your tracks, and from what others say about you, then I'm sure that your father is very very proud of his son.
