Subject: RE: Review: Lucas Jury - a kid to look out for From: Leadfingers Date: 11 Nov 12 - 12:21 PM Its also very easy to play stuff at a session that seems difficult to some people - like playing a tune in six keys on one flageolet(Whistle) . Lukas obviously has a lot of talent ! I wish him luck , but wouldnt book him just to play tunes . |

Subject: RE: Review: Lucas Jury - a kid to look out for From: GUEST,999 Date: 11 Nov 12 - 10:03 AM Lucas, love it. Don't give up and don't give in. In the parlance, "Bitchin'", or at least the parlance of thirty years ago. |
Subject: RE: Review: Lucas Jury - a kid to look out for From: Dave Hanson Date: 11 Nov 12 - 08:31 AM quote ' a song I wrote for my favourite time of day ' well actually to qualify as a song it should have some words, a song with no words is called a ' tune ' Very clever playing I must admit, but if you heard the audio only, I don't think it would be quite as impressive. Subject: RE: Review: Lucas Jury - a kid to look out for From: Continuity Jones Date: 11 Nov 12 - 08:01 AM I'm going to up the ante to 45 seconds. Very good, especially for one so young, but it needs to progress somehow for it to be anything other than "showy". Good luck though, you're approximately 1000 times better than I was at your age. Let's see where it goes from here and well done thus far. |
Subject: RE: Review: Lucas Jury - a kid to look out for From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 11 Nov 12 - 07:44 AM Influenced by Tommy Emmanuel? We've got a 16-yearold who comes to our local Open Mic who is similarly talented, and a great TE fan, only does instrumentals, but I suspect painstakingly learned, I don't know if he could improvise or jam with others, impressive, though, to a talentless old git like me. Subject: RE: Review: Lucas Jury - a kid to look out for From: GUEST Date: 11 Nov 12 - 07:08 AM Sorry for being rude. I take criticism on a daily basis, hence why I am doing all these other projects with singers and bands. Comments like I got bored... well I should just ignore. When I busk, people often go out of there way to sit and listen to me for over and hour. I guess it is just taste. Maybe post some of your guys stuff so I can give you a little feedback? |
Subject: RE: Review: Lucas Jury - a kid to look out for From: GUEST,Peter Laban Date: 11 Nov 12 - 06:57 AM I don't think 'I got bored after 30 seconds' really qualifies as 'reasonable criticism' to be honest. |
Subject: RE: Review: Lucas Jury - a kid to look out for From: Leadfingers Date: 11 Nov 12 - 06:47 AM Lukas - If you cant take a bit of reasonable criticism without a Rude Reply I certainly wouldn't pay anything to see you perform ! But I'll still provide a Clicky so its easy for any one to find what you do |
Subject: RE: Review: Lucas Jury - a kid to look out for From: GUEST, Date: 11 Nov 12 - 06:01 AM Cheers for the feedback guys. If you ever want to have a look at my new stuff, here's a song that's a bit more developed, although I am still learning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8axOA67Hap4 I am going to university by the way, and collaborating with singers and bands. That way, people like Dave who have the attention span of a brain damaged monkey can enjoy my music for longer than 30 seconds. |
Subject: RE: Review: Lucas Jury - a kid to look out for From: Fossil Date: 19 Jun 12 - 05:38 PM Well, I was impressed, but I do take the point made by Leadfingers, He'll need to either start vocalising or get with someone who can. It was more that his potential seems very impressive. To have developed that rather unique sound at such an early age is a bit special. And apparently he did it himself, without tuition. He can always back it off a bit when he does more mature material. Oh, and it's Lukas-with-a-K, apparently, sorry about that. |
Subject: RE: Review: Lucas Jury - a kid to look out for From: michaelr Date: 19 Jun 12 - 03:25 PM Can anyone explain why in some YouTube videos the sound and picture are perfectly in sync (as in this one) while in many others they are way off? |
Subject: RE: Review: Lucas Jury - a kid to look out for From: Dave Hanson Date: 19 Jun 12 - 02:43 PM I got bored after 30 seconds. Dave H |
Subject: RE: Review: Lucas Jury - a kid to look out for From: Leadfingers Date: 19 Jun 12 - 11:30 AM That sort of playing is very clever , but I feel has limited appeal - Would you really sit through any more than the four instrumentals ( A song has WORDS) than in that clip |
Subject: Review: Lucas Jury - a kid to look out for From: Fossil Date: 19 Jun 12 - 02:03 AM A local boy - from Wellington, New Zealand. Has decided he doesn't want to go to college as he can lake more from busking in Wellington's Cuba Street. And do you know, I think he's right! And indeed, Cuba Street might be just a stopover on the way to greater things. Here he is, in a short concert at the Jimmy (also in Wellington). Well worth a watch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWmpWDJx0UA&feature=related Perhaps a clone could put this into a clicky for me? How the heck did he learn to play like that? He's only 17! And he plays a ColeClark Fat Lady, same as mine! Consumed wiv envy I am! |
