The .................... I looked on to the valley floor,to see what lay before us The mornin’ mist was in my eyes,I could not see for cryin’ The mornin’ mist was in my eyes, I could not see for cryin’ The dawn’s light came through the leaves, As surely it must do Darkest fears crept through my heart, The Campbells been before us No sign of life could I detect, the air was full of sighing The mornin’ mist was in my eyes, I could not see for cryin’ The mornin’ mist was in my eyes, I could not see for cryin’ Donald o’er had fled before, the others there were dyin As through the village on we went, the cold wind through us blowin’ Our faces set and our heads were bowed, the truth in us was growin’ The mornin’ mist was in my eyes, I could not see for cryin’ The mornin’ mist was in my eyes, I could not see for cryin’ The mist a shroud to broken faith, Of ancient hospitality That kept all winter’s travellers safe, and traded highland loyalty They took their bread and they took their lives, No sign of pity showin’ The mornin’ mist was in my eyes I could not see for cryin’ The mornin’ mist was in my eyes I could not see for cryin’ They took their bread and they took their lives, No sign of pity showin’ The mornin’ mist was in my eyes I could not see for cryin’ |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Morning Mist by Nina Szifris From: GUEST,Treacle Bolly Date: 28 Jun 12 - 11:14 AM As I came through the morning mist an hour before the dawning Dark Glencoe was in a shroud, the air was close and clang to I looked down to the valley floor to see what lay before us But the morning mist was in my eyes, I could not see for crying The morning mist was in my eyes, I could not see for crying As dawn's light came through the haze as surely it must do The darkest fear crept through my heart, the Campbells been before us No sign of life could I detect, the air was full of sighing McDonalds all had fled before, the others dead or dying As through the village on we went, a cold wind through us blawing Our faces set and our heads were bowed, the truth in us was growing The mist a shroud to broken faith of ancient hospitality That kept all winter's travellers safe betrayed their Highland loyalty They took their bread and they took their lives No sign of pity showing. (From the booklet with the CD "Hearts are Broken, Heads are Turned" by Hand on Heart (HOH CD002). Nina's voice is really striking but seems to be fairly unknown (?). Would have played it to double-check, but CD player is bust ! Hope it helps anyway. |
